Happy National Cat Day! Today, we’re celebrating some very important members of our team’s families! They may not help write legislation or answer constituent calls, but they certainly keep us entertained (and remind us who’s really in charge).

The world has lost a leader among giants. Dolores Huerta changed our world for the better for millions of people. She was kind, compassionate, strong and most importantly - honest about what needed to be done and dedicated her life to doing it. She will be forever missed. My heart is with her family and loved ones during this difficult time.

The work of supporting survivors takes compassion, courage, and an incredible amount of heart. Last week, I was honored to present the Monterey County R**e Crisis Center with a Certificate of Recognition for their dedication to survivors of sexual violence, human trafficking, and child abuse. I’m thankful to their entire team for the care, advocacy, and support they provide to our Central Coast communities every day!

Empowered people, empower people! I enjoyed celebrating Global Peer Support Day with Transitions-Mental Health Association (TMHA) and the incredible people who turn their own experiences into hope for others. Thank you to Sandy Rives (LEAD Coordinator), the Peer Support Specialists, and Paloma Nava from the office of Assemblymember Gregg Hart who make such a difference in our Central Coast communities!

A closer look at the incredible marine life right here on the Central Coast! I enjoyed visiting the Central Coast Aquarium in Avila Beach for a tour led by Executive Director Kate Gillespie. From hands-on learning to inspiring the next generation of ocean advocates, the aquarium plays an important role in connecting our community with the marine life and coastal ecosystems that make this region so special.

This year’s California budget includes $3 million for food banks and home delivery services for the Central Coast, and $16.5 million statewide for diaper banks. These investments help put food on the table, diapers in the hands of families who need them, and support behind the organizations making it happen. Thank you to CEO Erica Padilla-Chavez, Chief Community Impact Officer Adriana Mata, and Chief Operating Officer Brendan Miele, for meeting with me and for providing a tour of all the diapers that now fill the warehouse!

Firefighters from across the region put their aircraft rescue and firefighting skills to the test at the first annual training demonstration hosted by the City of Monterey Fire Department and Monterey Regional Airport!

Proud to join union and city leaders, along with airport officials to see firsthand how this important training strengthens emergency preparedness and helps keep our Central Coast communities and travelers safe. Thank you to our first responders for all you do!
