Twenty-five years ago, our nation was forever changed.

On September 11, 2001, I wasn’t an elected official. I was a young mom and a military wife trying to make sense of the world that suddenly felt different.

Like so many military families, I understood that when our nation is attacked, the impact reaches far beyond the battlefield. It reaches into homes, families, schools, and communities.

I remember feeling fear as I watched the events of that day unfold. I remember the uncertainty of what would come next and the concern for the service members who would soon be called upon to defend our country.

Today, I have the privilege of serving as an elected official, but I still carry the perspective of that young mom and military wife with me.

Twenty-five years later, I think about the lives lost, the first responders who ran toward danger, the courage of ordinary people, the service members who answered the call, and the families who carried the weight of that service.

I also remember the unity that followed. We stood together. We cared for one another. We understood that our strength as a nation comes not only from those who wear a uniform, but from the families and communities who stand with them.

On this 25th anniversary, we honor the nearly 3,000 people we lost, those who sacrificed in the years that followed, and the families who continue to carry their memories.

As we remember, may we never forget the courage, service, sacrifice, and unity that defined the days after 9/11.

It was an honor to speak yesterday at the Napa-Solano Central Labor Council Labor Day Breakfast as labor councils are central to the labor movement.

The NSCLC is one of nearly 500 state and local labor councils acting as an arm of the AFL-CIO, and it represents over 20 thousand working people as well as 50 union affiliates in Napa and Solano counties. It strives daily to vanquish oppression and make our communities better for all people regardless of who they are.

I am proud to have been a small part of yesterday’s Labor Day tribute to workers and their essential contributions to our community.

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday for AD11 at Dixon City Hall! It was a pleasure connecting with residents, hearing your questions and concerns, and helping provide access to state resources. Our goal is to make state government more accessible and responsive to the people we serve. I work in Sacramento on behalf of you — the families, workers, and businesses. I appreciate you taking the time to participate and making your voices heard!

Hello! I encourage you to provide public comment on the final draft of proposed amendments to the Bay-Delta Plan released by the State Water Board. The board will consider adoption of the final plan amendments at a special public meeting on October 28-29.

On August 19, 2026, the State Water Board released the following three items for public review (a link to where you can find all three is in my bio):

- Final draft Bay-Delta Plan
- Final Staff Report, including written responses to previously submitted comments
- Final Scientific Basis Report Supplement in support of Voluntary Agreements (also referred to as the Healthy Rivers and Landscapes proposal)

Written public comments on this final draft should be submitted to [email protected]. Written public comments are due by September 18.

You can also provide oral comments in person at the October 28-29 board meeting.
October 28–29 (continuing on October 30 if necessary), beginning at 9:00 a.m. each day.
Joe Serna Jr. CalEPA Building
Coastal Hearing Room
1001 I Street, Second Floor
Sacramento, CA 95814

If you want to give a virtual public comment at the meeting, obtain a virtual speaker card at the other link in my bio. The deadline to request for group comments is October 19. If you are going to show a PowerPoint presentation during your comment, the deadline is October 23. Anyone else who wishes to comment has to submit their virtual speaker cards by October 27.

My office has been working — since I was elected to the Assembly in 2022 — to ensure that this plan is improved, including creating a ratified structure to the Healthy Rivers and Landscapes voluntary agreements.

Let your voice be heard!

On Wednesday, I visited Mare Island for a press conference with Gov. Gavin Newsom, during which he announced an $8,236,000 award to improve coordination across the Bay Area Region’s shipbuilding network, strengthen innovation, and expand workforce development and curriculum. The award is part of $48.5 million dedicated to driving economic growth and advancing innovation across the state.

Investments like these only succeed when we build strong partnerships around them. That is why I am especially excited about the collaboration between our maritime industry, Cal Poly Maritime Academy, and our regional Workforce Development Board and workforce partners.

Cal Poly Maritime Academy brings invaluable expertise in maritime education, research, engineering, and workforce preparation. Our Workforce Development Board and regional workforce partners help ensure that the opportunities we create are connected directly to the people who live here,  including young people entering the workforce, workers seeking new skills, and individuals looking for pathways into family-sustaining careers.

Together, these partnerships allow us to create a true education-to-career pipeline — one that connects the classroom to training, training to industry, and industry to good-paying jobs.

Economic development is not simply about bringing investment into a community. It is about making sure the community is positioned to benefit from that investment.

It means investing in people.

It means creating pathways from education to employment.

It means preparing our workforce for the jobs of tomorrow.
