Congratulations to Shirley Fong for her exceptional volunteer contribution as a "5 Over 50" honoree! Today she received the 2026 outstanding volunteer award!
Shirley Fong has been one of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento’s most exemplary volunteers for the past seven years, contributing nearly 5,000 hours in support of affordable homeownership, housing stability, and community revitalization through application reviews, home visits, major fundraising events, and hands on construction and repair work.
Since retiring in 2023, she volunteered full time as a key member of Habitat’s construction teams, demonstrating exceptional skill, resilience, and a “can do” attitude while completing every phase of homebuilding—including framing, siding, trim, cabinetry, flooring, and interior and exterior painting—consistently working through challenging weather and jobsite conditions.
Due to her technical expertise, leadership ability, and unwavering commitment, she was elevated to the role of CORE Volunteer, where she mentors first time volunteers, supports Habitat Site Supervisors, promotes safety, and fosters an encouraging environment that leaves volunteers confident, inspired, and proud of their contributions.
Shirley Fong’s impact extends far beyond new home construction, contributing to Neighborhood Revitalization, senior home repairs, Rock the Block community improvement events, the Playhouse Build Program, and Habitat’s all volunteer Electrical Crew, all while bringing generosity, humility, and a positive spirit that strengthens families, preserves neighborhoods, and advances Habitat’s mission to build homes, communities, and hope throughout Sacramento County.
