Thanks to an exciting partnership with The Alliance of Southwest Missouri, our Head Start families are receiving FREE, locally grown produce through special Produce Pop-Up events!

🥳 Our first event at Carthage Head Start was a success, with 52 families taking home fresh produce from local farmers! With 8 Produce Pop-Up events planned at Head Start locations across our service area, we’re helping make nutritious, farm-fresh food more accessible to the families we serve.

🙌🏼 A huge thank you to Alliance of SWMO | Non-Profit for making this possible and helping us build healthier families and stronger communities!

We’re excited to support expanded adult education opportunities in Barton County! 🎓

A big thank you to the Area Agency on Aging Region X for the technology donations and to Mary Gastel Passmore and her husband, Jim, for volunteering their time to assist with testing and tutoring students! 🫶🏼

This initiative makes learning opportunities more accessible for residents in Lamar who previously faced transportation barriers to attending classes in larger towns, like Joplin. 📚

Pictures of our 2026 Head Start Bus Roadeo!🚍

Bus Drivers participated in 7 challenges and obstacles that tested their driving skills, from demonstrating proper oil checks to maneuvering through zigzag obstacles, and getting their bumpers as close as possible to a target! 🎯 The drivers also received training and refreshers on safety measures and policies to ensure they are always prioritizing our Head Start children's safety and wellbeing.

Our Bus Driver with the highest score after all the testing was Marcie Carter from South Joplin. Congratulations!🥳

We are so proud and thankful for our dedicated Bus Drivers and their hard work every day!🚌

Housing assistance should not come with a stigma. Renters with housing vouchers often face unfair stereotypes, but needing assistance doesn't make someone a bad tenant. In fact, housing vouchers provide landlords with a RELIABLE source of rental payments❗

Our Community Development Assistant Director, Robin Smith, spoke with KOAM News Now about the barriers families face when searching for housing.

Our Head Start children had a special field trip to Missouri Southern State University to watch Folktales on Paper Waters, a puppet show inspired by traditional Vietnamese water puppetry!🌊

Our children enjoyed the puppets, fun storytelling, and the chance to experience something new! This was a wonderful way to cultivate their creativity and imagination skills. 💭

A big thank you to Missouri Southern State University and everyone involved for inviting our Head Start children and giving them such a memorable experience! 🦁
