Green Alliance of Southwest Missouri

Green Alliance of Southwest Missouri Guided by a moral compass and serving the SWMO area. The Green Alliance of Southwest Missouri is the local chapter of the Green Party USA located in Joplin.

Guided by a sense of justice and pragmatism, we hereby ordain and say that we shall rebel against any economic system that furthers distinctions of gender, race, spirituality, disability, refugee status or sexual preference. We want the powers (both hired and elected) that make choices in our collective future to represent, both literally and in spirit, the will of our communities to live healthy,

safe lives and to see others are able to do the same. Our desire, to which we owe the formation of this chapter as well as our national party, is to give more choice and more power to the citizens of this nation (and more specifically citizens of the SWMO area) who work to create the products and render the services of the country that we now seek to effectively govern, for themselves and for their progeny. The Green Alliance of Southwest Missouri (GASMO) will run/endorse candidates for any and all public offices where we feel that our social message will bring about effective change to our cities, our county governments, our school boards, our aldermanic boards, etc. GASMO will replace, where possible, obsolete and repressive economic and social models with ones that favor a society based on mutual admiration, co-operation, and sustainability.

UPDATE: There is NO DEADLINE to address council for the data center issues (ordinances 256 & 257). You can sign up to speak about items listed on the agenda all the way up to the start of the meeting! Our chance to be heard will be at the end of the meeting (under item 12), so the council will have plenty of time to think about the impact their vote will have on all of our futures.

We need development that protects our resources instead of draining them. Let our council members know that their neighbors don’t support a data center in Joplin, and we’re ready to fight back!

JPL TOMORROW!! ACTION!

🚨 URGENT:

JSTA is Taking Action on a New Opportunity!

Joplin, your voices are being heard—not just on the streets, but in our inbox!

A fellow community member recently reached out with a brilliant, time-sensitive strategy: a Written Objection Petition to put an immediate pause on the annexation of Wildwood Ranch. This forces the developer to re-evaluate their contract and gives us more time to put our environmental protections in place. After reviewing the legal details, the JSTA has agreed to officially sponsor and lead this effort. We are stronger together, and we are proud to be the platform that turns community ideas into action.

This is a powerful legal tool that can halt the data center development in its tracks, but because it has a much shorter legal deadline, we have to move fast!

🎯 GOAL: 1,200 signatures.

🛑DEADLINE: Monday, February 2nd.

If you want to ensure the council’s vote doesn't go unchallenged, we need you on the ground NOW.

🗓️ WHEN:

Thursday, January 29th @ 6–7 PM

📍 WHERE:

Joplin Public Library, Conference Room 3

This is what community-led action looks like. Let’s take this idea across the finish line together. See you tomorrow night!

A group of Joplin residents say they’re trying to provide citizen oversight of the Joplin Police Department’s use of one of the latest controversial law enforcement technologies, which has already been misused by one JPD officer.
