FREE sports physicals are tonight, June 1!

If your student plans to participate in athletic activities for the 2026-27 school year (including marching band), we encourage you to attend the FREE pre-participation physical clinic Monday June 1, 2026, at the JHS gyms. No advance registration is necessary. Physicals begin at 5:30pm, offered with the help of Freeman Health System Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine staff. All middle school and high school athletes are welcome.

There's no need to bring anything with you, but it will be helpful for both parents and students to have the PowerSchool app downloaded on their phones in order to complete forms. Staff will be on site to assist with PowerSchool questions.

Summer Bus Routes are now available on our website!

https://joplinschools.org/summerbus

Summer bus routes are unique, as students from across the district are being transported to shared buildings that may not be in their typical zone. This means stops may not be within easy distance from your student’s home and may require families to bring their students to the closest available bus stop, or one that works well for the family’s morning schedule. If you have any questions about routes or stop locations, please contact the Transportation Office at 417-625-5300.

We're looking forward to a great summer! ☀

At Joplin High School’s graduation earlier this month, three seniors were recognized for their academic excellence and the example they’ve set for others: John Jasper, David Bhend, Jacob Tatum.

Each was invited to share a few words with their classmates. Their reflections are thoughtful, honest, and worth hearing beyond the ceremony.

David Bhend: "As we move into the future, I hope you all remember that growth doesn’t stop here. After tonight, we’re all going to take different paths. None of us will have everything figured out right away. But what matters is that we keep showing up, keep working hard, and keep surrounding ourselves with people who make us better. The best things in life take time. Sometimes we have to be uncomfortable now so that one day we can look back and be thankful we kept going."

John Jasper: "The people who end up happier in life aren’t necessarily the people who had everything planned perfectly. They’re the people who when given an opportunity weren’t scared of the moment or scared of being rejected. They’re the people who took the opportunity and ran with it. The people who tried even when they knew failure was possible. Because failure isn’t the worst thing that can happen to you. It's looking back years later wondering what could’ve been."

Jacob Tatum: "No matter which paths we take, there will always be challenges and obstacles in our way. Some of us might get lost or stuck at times, but there will always be an ever-expanding path before us. If we keep chipping away day in and day out, we WILL succeed and get to our desired destinations. Don’t be afraid to deviate from the norm in a society that worships fitting in, because today is proof that even with roughly 540 different versions of the same story, we still all achieved the desired outcome."

We’re proud of these students and the perspective they bring. Their words are a reminder that success looks different for everyone, and that the future is built one step at a time.

Congratulations again to our class of 2026! 🦅

Joplin graduates are doing incredible things!

JHS and JETHD alumna Alexandra Carson (Class of ’24) is directing and producing a feature-length documentary titled Mother Road, filming from May 21 through June 3.

The project will follow a cross-country journey beginning in Joplin, Missouri and ending in California. Mother Road offers a fractal and delicate view of the daily lives of Americans through the eyes of four filmmakers on the verge of adulthood as they explore Route 66 during its Centennial, creating a humanistic yet eccentric portrait of the country and its people.

Alex and her team are currently raising funds to support travel and production costs, and they welcome recommendations for people, places, or events to feature, as well as support from the Joplin Schools community to help bring this ambitious project to life.
