ARE YOU OR SOMEONE YOU LOVE IN NEED OF HOME HEALTH CARE?

It can be a stressful decision to make. CMS recommends that patients on Medicare and their caregivers ask these questions of home health care providers when deciding who to use:

1. Are you Medicare certified?
2. Medicaid certified (if you have both Medicare and Medicaid)?
3. Do you offer the specific health care services I need, like skilled nursing services or physical therapy?
4. Do you meet my special needs, like language or cultural preferences?
5. Do you offer the personal care services I need, like help bathing, dressing, and using the bathroom?
6. Do you offer the support services I need, or can you help me arrange for additional services, like a meal delivery service, that I may need? (NOTE: These types of services aren’t generally covered by Medicare).
7. Do you have staff that can give the type and hours of care my doctor ordered and start when I need them?
8. Is this service recommended by my hospital discharge planner, doctor, or social worker?
9. Do you have staff available at night and on weekends for emergencies?
10. Can you explain what my insurance will cover and what I must pay out-of-pocket?
11. Do you have letters from satisfied patients, family members, and doctors that testify to this home health agency providing good care?
