Can you picture it? A new project, encouraged by the Genesee County Board of Commissioners, is coming to Flushing County Park, and we are excited to share these upcoming plans on today's Friday in the Field!
In support of Genesee County's priority to promote environmental stewardship, Horticulturist Jess is bringing a Monarch Waystation and native prairie space to the park. This new project will take shape in the open green space next to the playground area, transforming what has been a simple grassy space into a thriving ecosystem filled with Michigan native plants. The goal is to create a welcoming habitat for monarch butterflies, other native pollinators, and host species found throughout our area. All of the plant material used to develop this project will be grown in-house by our Horticulture team.
The Horticulture team has been hard at work mapping out the future layout of the garden, which will even feature an arbor and gathering space designed to host interpretive and educational programs alongside our education team.
We cannot wait to watch this space grow and bloom into a beautiful new feature at the park!
