MDHHS seeks public comment on State Plan on Aging: The Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act (DD Act) says each State Council on Developmental Disabilities must submit a five-year plan to improve the lives of people with developmental disabilities in the state.

Council members recently voted to approve a draft for a new five-year state plan that will begin October 1, 2026, and end on September 30, 2031. The DD Act requires that the Council give the public forty-five (45) days to review and provide comments on the plan. The public comment period is from May 26, 2026 through July 11, 2026.

Review the draft five-year state plan and share your public comments at

An important update regarding our annual ADA Day Picnic event!

After assessing the needs of our community, we have decided to shift our annual picnic celebration to a day of advocacy in action.

What does this mean? We will not have a community picnic with food, music, vendors, and activities hosted at Powers High School.

Instead, this year's event will be educational. You will learn about employment rights under the ADA, connect with other advocates, and learn how to use your voice to create change. The event will include a Disability Rights Keynote Speaker, an Employment Rights session, and a panel discussion about creating change in the community.

We hope you will leave our event feeling more confident about your rights protected under the ADA and advocating for yourself and others.

More event information will be available soon through social media and our website.

We look forward to celebrating the 36th anniversary of the ADA in this new way!
