Today, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Manila joins the Filipino nation in commemorating and the culmination of —occasions that honor the contributions of Filipino heroes and the enduring legacy they have left.

Among the historical figures we remember is Dr. José Rizal, whose novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo helped awaken a sense of national consciousness and inspired generations of Filipinos during a pivotal period in Philippine history.

But did you know that Rizal’s works have also found their way into the Czech language?

From the Philippines to Czechia, Rizal’s words continue to cross borders and generations.

In case you missed it, Franz Kafka’s classic The Metamorphosis is now available as an audiobook in !

Produced by Savage Mind: Arts, Books, Cinema with the support of the Embassy, the audiobook brings to life “An Pagkagimata ni Gregor Samsa”, Kristian Sendon Cordero’s Bicolano translation of Kafka’s renowned work.

The translation itself was also supported by the Embassy, helping make Czech literature more accessible to Filipino readers and listeners in local languages.

Today we commemorate the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the 1968 Invasion and the subsequent occupation by the Warsaw Pact armies. This day is dedicated to the memory of all those whose lives were tragically marked by the events of August 1968. We do not forget. 🕊️

Go global and Study in Czechia 🇨🇿

The Embassy was pleased to participate in the recently held HABI: UP Global Mobility and Exchange Fair 2026 organised by the University of the Philippines’ Office of International Linkages.

Today is World Humanitarian Day - a day to honor the humanitarian workers and partners who relentlessly provide frontline services and needs to those affected by conflict, disasters, and humanitarian crises. Despite their essential role, humanitarian workers continue to face violence, intimidation, repression, and security risks while carrying out their duties.

On this day, the Embassy stands in solidarity with People in Need - a humanitarian organization based in Czech Republic, in calling for stronger measures to protect humanitarian workers and ensure their protection from threats and interference.

In case you missed it, the Embassy the opportunity to visit Iskolar Reading Center Inc. in Silang, Cavite, last May 13, where we shared Czech culture and held a storytelling session featuring Si Aso at si Pusa – Paano Nilang Nilinis ang Sahig, a Filipino translation of the Czech classic children’s book Povídání o pejskovi a kočičce.

Crossing language barriers, Czeching out stories together!

For years, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Manila, in partnership with various institutions and translators, has supported translation projects that promote Philippine languages while introducing Filipino readers to the works of classical and contemporary Czech authors.

Among these projects are Franz Kafka’s classic The Metamorphosis, translated into Filipino and Bicolano; Karel Čapek’s landmark play R.U.R. (Rossum’s Universal Robots); and, most recently, Bianca Bellová’s The Lake, translated into Bicolano as Danaw.

Through translation, literature travels beyond borders, languages find new readers, and Czech and Philippine cultures come a little closer together. 🇨🇿📚🇵🇭
