Ambassador Mounir Anastas visits Siargao last May 29, 2026 and follows up on targeted attack against aupporters of the Palestinian cause.

Ambassador Mounir Anastas, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the Philippines, paid a working visit to Municipality of General Luna, Siargao Island, where he met with the Mayor, Vicce mayor, Counselors of Municipality, and the Chief of Police to discuss opportunities for cultural, tourism, and development cooperation and ways to strengthen ties with local communities.

During the discussions, Ambassador Anastas followed up on the case involving a German national and his Filipino wife, owners of a local café (Cartoon Café), who were subjected to a targeted attack after publicly expressing solidarity with the Palestinian cause and displaying the Palestinian flag at their establishment. Video footage of the incident indicated that the perpetrators were Israeli nationals .

Following intensive efforts and coordination by the Embassy with the relevant Philippine authorities, including senior police officials, the individuals involved in the attack were identified and legal proceedings were initiated. The Embassy also emphasized the importance of ensuring appropriate compensation for the victims and safeguarding freedom of expression.

Ambassador Anastas also visited Cartoon Café, where the incident took place, and met with the victims, as well as local activists and supporters of the Palestinian cause, expressing solidarity with them and reaffirming the Embassy’s commitment to closely following the case and ensuring that justice is served.

The Embassy of the State of Palestine in the Philippines will continue to closely follow the case with the competent authorities to ensure that justice is served and that acts of violence against those who stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people do not go unpunished.

قام السفير منير أنسطاس، سفير دولة فلسطين لدى الفلبين، بزيارة عمل إلى بلدية جنرال لونا في جزيرة سيارغاو، حيث التقى برئيس البلدية ونائبه وأعضاء المجلس البلدي ورئيس الشرطة، وبحث معهم سبل تعزيز التعاون في المجالات الثقافية والسياحية والتنموية، وتطوير العلاقات مع المجتمعات المحلية في الفلبين.

كما تابع السفير خلال اللقاءات قضية الاعتداء الذي تعرض له مواطن ألماني وزوجته الفلبينية، مالكا مقهى “كارتون كافيه”، على خلفية تضامنهما مع القضية الفلسطينية ورفع علم فلسطين في المقهى. وأظهرت تسجيلات مصورة للحادث أن المعتدين يحملون الجنسية الإسرائيلية.

وفي إطار المتابعة الحثيثة للسفارة، جرى التنسيق مع الجهات الفلبينية المختصة، بما في ذلك القيادات الأمنية، حيث تم التعرف على هوية المتورطين في الاعتداء والشروع بالإجراءات القانونية اللازمة بحقهم. كما شددت السفارة على أهمية ضمان حصول الضحيتين على التعويض المناسب وحماية حرية التعبير وعدم التسامح مع أعمال العنف والتحريض.

وخلال الزيارة، توجه السفير أنسطاس إلى مقهى “كارتون كافيه”، موقع الاعتداء، والتقى بالمعتدى عليهما، إلى جانب عدد من الناشطين والمتضامنين مع القضية الفلسطينية، معرباً عن تضامنه معهم ومؤكداً التزام السفارة بمتابعة القضية حتى تحقيق العدالة.

وتواصل سفارة دولة فلسطين لدى الفلبين متابعتها الحثيثة للقضية مع الجهات المختصة، بما يضمن محاسبة المسؤولين عن الاعتداء، وترسيخ مبادئ حرية التعبير، وعدم إفلات مرتكبي أعمال العنف بحق المتضامنين مع الشعب الفلسطيني من العقاب.

Embassy of the State of Palestine in the Philippines Commemorates the 78th Anniversary of the Nakba Through Cultural and Film Events in Manila

The Embassy of the State of Palestine to the Republic of the Philippines commemorated the 78th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba through a series of cultural and film events held in Manila, as part of its ongoing efforts to preserve Palestinian national memory and raise awareness of the just cause and continued suffering of the Palestinian people.

“The Nakba is not a distant memory; it did not happen 78 years ago, It started 78 years ago and remains ongoing,” Ambassador Mounir Anastas stated during the opening screening of the documentary film “Tantura” at DUSIT THANI MANILA Hotel on May 21, attended by many ambassadors, members of the diplomatic corps, officials from the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs, as well as academic, cultural, and media personalities.

The documentary addressed the events of the Palestinian Nakba of 1948 and the ethnic cleansing crimes, forced displacement, and humanitarian suffering endured by the Palestinian people through the lens of the story of the Tantura massacre.

On 16/5, the Embassy also organized a public screening of the short films “from Ground Zero the Untold Stories from Gaza” at WHYNOT ART & DESIGN, attended by artists and individuals interested in the Palestinian cause, as well as friends of Palestine in the Philippines.

The short film highlighted the humanitarian dimensions of the Palestinian people’s suffering and the daily realities faced during the genocide in Gaza carried out by the Israeli army, portraying the resilience and steadfastness of the Palestinian people in defending their legitimate national rights.

Ambassador Anastas emphasized that commemorating the Nakba is an important national occasion to reaffirm the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.

“The Nakba is a lived reality of shattered villages, stolen land, and a right of return that remains unanswered,” he added.

أحيت سفارة دولة فلسطين لدى جمهورية الفلبين الذكرى الـ78 للنكبة الفلسطينية عبر سلسلة من الفعاليات الثقافية والسينمائية في العاصمة مانيلا، في إطار جهودها المتواصلة للحفاظ على الذاكرة الوطنية الفلسطينية وتعزيز الوعي بعدالة القضية الفلسطينية ومعاناة الشعب الفلسطيني المستمرة.

بتاريخ 21/5، نظمت السفارة عرضاً للفيلم الوثائقي “Tantura” في فندق DUSIT THANI MANILA، بحضور عدد من السفراء وأعضاء السلك الدبلوماسي، وممثلين عن وزارة الخارجية الفلبينية، إلى جانب شخصيات أكاديمية وثقافية وإعلامية.

وخلال كلمته الافتتاحية، أكد سفير دولة فلسطين منير أنسطاس أن:
“النكبة ليست ذكرى بعيدة، ولم تحدث قبل 78 عاماً فقط، بل بدأت قبل 78 عاماً وما زالت مستمرة حتى اليوم.”

وتناول الفيلم أحداث النكبة الفلسطينية عام 1948 وما رافقها من جرائم تطهير عرقي وتهجير قسري ومعاناة إنسانية للشعب الفلسطيني، من خلال تسليط الضوء على مجزرة الطنطورة.

كما نظمت السفارة بتاريخ 16/5 عرضاً جماهيرياً لمجموعة الأفلام القصيرة “From Ground Zero: The Untold Stories from Gaza” في WHYNOT ART & DESIGN، بحضور عدد من الفنانين والمهتمين بالقضية الفلسطينية وأصدقاء دولة فلسطين في الفلبين.

وسلطت الأفلام الضوء على الأبعاد الإنسانية لمعاناة الشعب الفلسطيني والواقع اليومي الذي يعيشه أبناء شعبنا في ظل حرب الإبادة في غزة، مجسدةً صمود الشعب الفلسطيني وتمسكه بحقوقه الوطنية المشروعة.

وأكد السفير أنسطاس أن إحياء ذكرى النكبة يمثل محطة وطنية مهمة لتجديد التأكيد على الحقوق غير القابلة للتصرف للشعب الفلسطيني، مضيفاً:

Ambassador of the State of Palestine in the Philippines, His Excellency Mounir Anastas receives the Palestinian Karate delegation participating in the World League.

Ambassador Mounir Anastas and Deputy Ambassador Ziad Bedaiwi received the delegation of the Palestinian Karate Team participating in the World League Championship, immediately upon their arrival in the Philippines, as part of continuous support to Palestinian athletes participating in international events.

The delegation included coach Amin Basharat and player Maryam Basharat, where Ambassador Anastas and embassy staff welcomed the Palestinian delegation, wishing them good luck, success in the tournament and achievement of honorable results that will lift the name of Palestine high.

On his side, coach Amin conveyed greetings to the President of the Palestinian Karate Federation, Mr. Mohammed Al-Bakri, appreciating the warmth reception and support provided by the Palestinian Embassy to the delegation during its international participation.

The delegation confirmed its readiness to compete in the championship, expressing its pride in representing Palestine and seeking to present a dignified image of Palestinian sport at this global event.

سفير دولة فلسطين في الفلبين يستقبل بعثة الكاراتيه الفلسطينية المشاركة في الدوري العالمي
استقبل سعادة السفير منير البسطة ونائب السفير زياد بديوي بعثة المنتخب الفلسطيني للكاراتيه المشاركة في بطولة الدوري العالمي، وذلك فور وصولها إلى الفلبين، في إطار الدعم المتواصل للرياضيين الفلسطينيين المشاركين في المحافل الدولية.
وضمت البعثة المدرب أمين بشارات واللاعبة مريم بشارات، حيث رحب سعادة السفير وأركان السفارة بالوفد الفلسطيني، متمنين لهم التوفيق والنجاح في البطولة وتحقيق نتائج مشرّفة ترفع اسم فلسطين عاليًا.
من جانبه، نقل المدرب أمين بشارات تحيات رئيس الاتحاد الفلسطيني للكاراتيه الأستاذ محمد البكري، مثمنًا حفاوة الاستقبال والدعم الذي تقدمه السفارة الفلسطينية للبعثة خلال مشاركتها الدولية.
وأكدت البعثة جاهزيتها لخوض منافسات البطولة، معبرة عن اعتزازها بتمثيل فلسطين والسعي لتقديم صورة مشرّفة عن الرياضة الفلسطينية في هذا الحدث العالمي.

H.E. Mounir Anastas, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the Republic of the Philippines, paid an official visit to Dumaguete City Mayor, the Honorable Felipe Antonio Remollo, to discuss ways of strengthening bilateral cooperation.

The meeting explored opportunities to deepen collaboration in tourism, culture, education, and trade, with particular emphasis on sharing expertise within UNESCO’s fields of competence. This focus aligns with Dumaguete’s designation as a UNESCO Creative City of Literature. Ambassador Anastas highlighted Palestine’s own experience in this area, noting that two Palestinian cities—Hebron and Ramallah—are inscribed on the UNESCO Creative Cities list. The discussions also touched on Dumaguete’s literature festival, scheduled for November 2026.

The Ambassador further briefed the Mayor on the latest developments in the State of Palestine, especially the escalation of organized settler terrorism targeting Palestinian people and their properties. He also drew attention to the recent adoption of a law by the Knesset that permits the death penalty for Palestinian prisoners.
