📍 My Journey to Canada Storytelling Contest Winner

🌟 Meet Cecilia Landicho, one of our My Journey to Canada Storytelling Contest winners.

Cecilia and their family arrived in Canada in June 2023, just days before Canada Day, embarking on a new chapter filled with both excitement and uncertainty. As an international student at Saskatchewan Polytechnic, they initially faced challenges adapting to a new environment, navigating a different education system, finding part-time employment, and coping with homesickness.

Through the support of family, and a diverse community of fellow international students, those challenges gradually became opportunities for growth. A turning point in their journey in making Canada their home came through volunteering with organizations such as Saskatchewan Polytechnic, SaskAbilities, the Saskatchewan Down Syndrome Society, St. Anne's Catholic Church, and Couples for Christ. By giving back to their community that had welcomed them so warmly, they not only helped others but learned local traditions, improved their confidence and connected more deeply with people with neurodiverse needs. By volunteering they discovered that home is not just a place you live but a community you actively build.

Today, surrounded by a welcoming and inclusive community, Cecilia proudly calls Canada home. Their story is a testament to the power of resilience, community, and the courage to embrace new beginnings.

Thank you, Cecilia, for participating in the My Journey to Canada Storytelling Contest and for sharing your inspiring journey with us. Your story reminds us that meaningful connections and a spirit of service can transform unfamiliar places into a place to call home. We hope your experience inspires others as they embark on their own Canadian journeys.

On August 27, 2026, The Embassy of Canada in the Philippines sponsored and participated in the Philippine Civil Society Preparatory Meeting for the 19th ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour.

Centered on the theme "Protection of Migrant Workers through Regular and Safe Migration Pathways," participants engaged in constructive discussions on online recruitment practices, access to protection, remedies, and support services for migrant workers.

The forum provided an important platform for dialogue and collaboration, generating valuable insights, and reinforcing the role of civil society in advancing migrant worker protections. We are pleased to support these efforts as preparations continue for the 19th ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour.
