From island tourism to better air connectivity, Malaysia and Palau explored new possibilities for cooperation during Ambassador Dato’ Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino’s meeting with Mr. Kadoi Ruluked, Managing Director of the Palau Visitors Authority, in Koror on 1 September 2026.

Discussions focused on opportunities to enhance bilateral cooperation in tourism promotion, air connectivity, Halal tourism and medical tourism. Ambassador Dato’ Abdul Malik also highlighted opportunities for Palauan professionals to benefit from relevant hospitality and capacity-building programmes under the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP).

During the meeting, the Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the Philippines (MCCI) was introduced as a potential bridge to facilitate greater business collaboration among Malaysia, the Philippines and Palau.

The Ambassador also invited the Palau Visitors Authority to participate in the upcoming Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS 2026) in Kuala Lumpur from 23 to 26 September 2026, as well as the ASEAN Chambers of Commerce Summit in Manila in October 2026.

The meeting marked another positive step towards strengthening tourism cooperation, private-sector linkages and people-to-people exchanges between Malaysia and Palau, in the spirit of South-South cooperation.

Expanding Malaysia–Palau economic engagement, Ambassador Dato’ Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino, together with representatives of the Embassy of Malaysia in Manila and the Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the Philippines (MCCI), met with Ms. Cornelia Mason, Chairperson of the Palau Foreign Investment Board (FIB), on 1 September 2026, on the sidelines of the 55th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders’ Meeting (PIFLM) in Koror, Palau.

The meeting explored opportunities to strengthen bilateral economic relations, trade connectivity and investment between Malaysia and Palau. MCCI was also introduced as a potential bridge to facilitate greater business linkages among Malaysia, the Philippines and Palau.

Both sides exchanged views on Palau’s investment landscape and discussed potential areas of cooperation where Malaysian expertise could contribute, including off-grid renewable energy, Halal tourism infrastructure, food security and digital governance.

Ambassador Dato’ Abdul Malik also highlighted opportunities for Palauan regulatory and investment officials to benefit from relevant capacity-building programmes under the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP).

The Ambassador further invited the Palau Foreign Investment Board and Palauan business representatives to participate in the upcoming Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS 2026) in Kuala Lumpur from 23 to 26 September 2026, as well as the ASEAN Chambers of Commerce Summit in Manila in October 2026.

Advancing Malaysia–Palau relations across economic, technical and diplomatic areas, Ambassador Dato’ Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino met with H.E. Gustav Aitaro, Minister of State of the Republic of Palau, on 1 September 2026, on the sidelines of the 55th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders’ Meeting (PIFLM) in Koror, Palau.

Discussions focused on opportunities to broaden bilateral cooperation, including through enhanced air connectivity, Halal tourism, digital and climate governance, as well as mutual support for candidatures in international organisations.

Ambassador Dato’ Abdul Malik also highlighted opportunities for Palau to benefit from relevant capacity-building programmes under the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP), particularly in cybersecurity, renewable energy, digital governance and agro-industry, tailored to Palau’s development needs.

The Ambassador also invited Palau to participate in the upcoming Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS 2026) and the ASEAN Chambers of Commerce Summit.

The engagement reflected the shared commitment of Malaysia and Palau to further deepen economic, technical and diplomatic cooperation, in the spirit of South-South cooperation.

Strengthening Malaysia–Palau cooperation in tourism and human capital development, Ambassador Dato’ Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino paid a courtesy call on the Honourable Ngiraibelas Tmetuchl, Minister of Human Resources, Culture, Tourism and Development of the Republic of Palau, on 1 September 2026, on the sidelines of the 55th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders’ Meeting (PIFLM) in Koror, Palau.

Discussions focused on opportunities to further enhance bilateral cooperation in areas including tourism promotion, air connectivity, Halal tourism and medical tourism. Ambassador Dato’ Abdul Malik also highlighted opportunities for Palauan professionals to benefit from relevant hospitality and capacity-building programmes under the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP).

The meeting reflected the shared commitment of Malaysia and Palau to deepen bilateral ties through South-South cooperation, while complementing broader ASEAN–Pacific Islands Forum cooperation under the 2023 ASEAN–PIF Memorandum of Understanding.

On 31 August 2026, Ambassador Dato’ Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino, accompanied by representatives of the Embassy of Malaysia and the Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the Philippines (MCCI), had a meeting with Ms. Vivien Ngirarsaol-Protine, Vice- President of the Board of Directors of Palau Chamber of Commerce (PCC) on the sidelines of the 55th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting (PIFLM) in Koror, Palau. Also in attendance was PCC directors.

The meeting provided an opportunity to strengthen trade and investment ties between Malaysia and Palau, with MCCI introduced as a potential link between the business communities of Malaysia, the Philippines and Palau.

Discussions focused on Palau’s economic development and potential areas of cooperation where Malaysia could share its expertise, particularly in agriculture, renewable energy, Halal tourism and digital infrastructure. Ambassador Dato’ Abdul Malik took the opportunity of the meeting to invite PCC to participate in the upcoming Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS 2026) in Kuala Lumpur from 23 to 26 September 2026, as well as the ASEAN Chambers of Commerce Summit in Manila on 17 October 2026.

Both sides also discussed opportunities to strengthen capacity-building cooperation, including through relevant programmes under the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP), particularly in areas such as trade management, digital transformation and eco-tourism.

The meeting reflected the warm friendship between Malaysia and Palau and the shared commitment to further strengthen economic cooperation under the spirit of South-South cooperation.

Against the backdrop of the 55th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders’ Meeting in Koror, Palau, Ambassador Dato’ Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino hosted a luncheon with eight Palauan alumni of the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) on 31 August 2026. The gathering was particularly meaningful as it coincided with Malaysia’s 69th National Day.

The Ambassador took the opportunity to celebrate the occasion with the alumni, in the spirit of this year’s National Day theme, “Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati”, reflecting Malaysia’s commitment to sharing knowledge, experience and development with its international partners. The Ambassador expressed his appreciation to the alumni for joining the luncheon and for their continued connection with Malaysia. The engagement also provided an opportunity to exchange views on Palau’s development priorities and to explore areas where future MTCP capacity-building programmes could be further tailored to Palau’s needs.

The luncheon reflected the warm and enduring friendship between Malaysia and Palau, strengthened through the MTCP and the broader spirit of South-South cooperation.

GYAMC BAGUIO | Opening Plenary

On August 28, 2026, the Global Youth Ambassadors Model Conference (GYAMC) Baguio formally opened in the Coheesan Plaza Hotel’s Conference Hall. The conference, themed “Shaping Tommorow Amidst Turmoil: Rebuilding a Fractured Global Order Towards a New Era of Multilateralism, ” brought together youth leaders and aspiring diplomats across the country to address the pressing global issues.

The conference began at 2:30 PM, with remarks from Baguio City Hon. Mayor Benjamin Magalong, who highlighted that change always begins with people who believe that there is something that can be done. Followed by inspirational remarks from Senators Risa Hontiveros and Kiko Pangilinan along with Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian, as well as a message from Mr. Sandro Atillano of FPJ Partylist on behalf of Congressman Brian Poe.

Ambassador of Malaysia to the Philippines H.E. Dato’ Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino followed and reminded the delegates to always be people centric, that it’s not only about you— it’s also about your family, community, and most importantly your country.
