As e-bikes continue to grow in popularity, our Rangers are stepping up enforcement efforts to help keep the American River Parkway safe for everyone.

Recently, Rangers partnered with the Sacramento County Probation UTV Team and CHP motorcycle officers for a targeted enforcement operation along the American River Parkway Multi-Use Trail. The operation focused on addressing unsafe riding behaviors, unauthorized vehicles on the trail and educating riders about Parkway regulations.

During the operation, Rangers issued seven citations and towed four vehicles for violations including excessive speed, operating prohibited vehicles on the trail and licensing-related offenses.

Remember: the American River Parkway Multi-Use Trail has a 15 mph speed limit, Class 3 e-bikes are prohibited on the trail, and e-motorcycles are not allowed.

These enforcement efforts will continue throughout the Parkway as part of our ongoing commitment to public safety and ensuring a safe, enjoyable experience for all visitors.

We’re partnering with the City of Sacramento Fire Department and Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District to conduct a series of prescribed burns throughout June as part of our ongoing fire risk reduction efforts.

The first prescribed burn is scheduled for June 7-9 in the Woodlake area of the American River Parkway.

The controlled burns are designed to reduce wildfire risk, improve ecosystem health and provide valuable training opportunities for fire personnel. Burn operations will be conducted under carefully monitored conditions to ensure public safety and minimize impacts to surrounding communities.

Memorial Day Weekend marks the unofficial start of summer in Sacramento County, and families and friends will head outdoors to enjoy our parks, rivers and open spaces.

As you make your plans, we want to share some important reminders to help everyone stay safe, protect our natural resources and enjoy a memorable holiday weekend.

Water safety should always come first. The American River and other local waterways remain very cold this time of year, and currents can be strong and unpredictable. Even experienced swimmers can be caught off guard. Always wear a life jacket on the river!

Open-flame fires are not allowed in Regional Parks. Barbecues may only be used in designated picnic areas. And all fireworks are prohibited in Regional Parks, including both “safe and sane” and illegal fireworks.

Possession of alcohol on the shores and in the American River from Hazel Avenue down to Discovery Park and at Sherman Island is prohibited from Saturday, May 23, through Monday, May 25. This applies to both open and unopened containers.

Parking rates will increase over the weekend to $10 for single vehicles and $16 for oversized vehicles and vehicles towing watercraft.

ATTENTION: California is experiencing an unprecedented outbreak of severe illness, liver failure, and deaths from people accidentally picking and eating poisonous wild mushrooms, specifically Death Cap and Western Destroying Angel mushrooms.

Park visitors are urged to avoid eating wild foraged mushrooms at this time.

California is experiencing an unprecedented outbreak of severe illness, liver failure and deaths from people accidentally picking and eating poisonous wild mushrooms, specifically Death Cap and Western Destroying Angel mushrooms.

Sacramento County Public Health (SCPH), in alignment with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), is urging residents not to pick or eat wild mushrooms as the risk of potentially deadly amatoxin poisoning is high. Since Death Cap (Amanita phalloides) and Western Destroying Angel (Amanita ocreata) are easily confused for safe-to-eat lookalike mushrooms, all mushroom foraging should be avoided.
