Chester Hose Company Inc. Providing Volunteer Fire & Medical Services to the Town of Chester Connecticut

The Chester Hose Company, located along the west bank of the Connecticut River in central Connecticut, has been protecting the lives and property of those living in and passing through the town in addition to providing fire, rescue, and hazmat services to the residents of the 17 square mile town, since it's founding in 1912. In addition, we have mutual aid agreements with departments in Clinton, D

eep River, Essex, Haddam, Killingworth, Old Saybrook, Westbrook, and the South District station out of Middletown. Additional services from Guilford can also be called upon for Hazmat and Rapid Intervention Team (RIT).

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Thomas F. Miksa.

His strong sense of community first brought him to our department as a Junior Member. He proudly served for fifty-five (55) years, holding many roles over the decades, including Junior Advisor, Trustee, Truck Driver, Firefighter, EMT, Fire Police, and 2nd Assistant Chief. He inspired fellow members and encouraged others to join our volunteer family.

Tom was a mentor to many and a friend to all. His contagious laughter and positive attitude will be missed by all of us.

Rest easy, brother. We’ll take it from here.

Last night's storm came in worse than forecast and hit hard enough that fire departments across the area were toned to staff their stations as it moved through. Most towns came through with minor issues, but East Haddam took the brunt of it and got buried in calls: wires down, CO alarms, suspected propane leaks, and motor vehicle accidents.

Once our crews cleared local coverage, Chester Engine 3 headed to East Haddam staffed and ready to assist. They have always been there when we have needed them, and we were glad to return the favor. Thanks to East Haddam's crews, still cleaning up today, and to our own members who turned out and stayed late.

Thanks to the Rotary Club of Chester, CT for another great Four on the Fourth road race, back for its 48th year yesterday. Between our crews and Deep River Ambulance, we had EMS coverage on the route, help securing the course, and a sprinkler running to keep runners cool.

Big thanks to Deep River for helping cover the event. Great day all around, and congratulations to everyone who ran.

On Friday evening, June 5, 2026, shortly after 11 p.m., Chester Hose Company Inc. was dispatched by Valley Shore Emergency Communications to assist Lyme Fire Company with a reported brush fire on Selden Island, alongside Deep River Fire Department and Essex Fire Engine Co. #1

With the fire on an island, marine units were used to ferry crews and equipment to the scene and to supply water to the fire. All units worked well together to quickly knock down the fire and prevent it from spreading across the island.
