Post electrical issues impacting pump operations, Engine 2 was put to the test tonight to ensure that our Hadlyme frontline Engine could be put back in service.

Hamburg's "old faithful" Engine 3, did its duty tonight happily drafting away and discharging from the deck gun. Training nights are important for exercising equipment and finding faults so they are not discovered on the actual fire scene. Thanks to the Deputy Chief for setting up the test and practice tonight.

Lyme Fire has responded, along with multiple other mutual-aid departments, with one Tanker to the scene, one Engine for station coverage in East Haddam, Deputy Chief at water supply, and two firefighters standing by at Hamburg Station. Good response tonight and fire knocked down as of 23:00.

Additional response by Lyme Engine 1 and Chief 75-2 (Cover assignment at EHFD Station 1) and Chief 75-1 transitioned to another incident, fire alarm at Goodspeed Opera House for the accidental smoke detector activation during a performance.

LYME EMS & LYME FIRE ALS INCIDENT WITH LIFESTAR TRANSPORT

Lyme Ambulance Association (Lyme EMS), Lyme Fire Department and a Medic, dispatched to an ALS incident for an individual with serious burns on a worksite. Based on the nature of the incident and severity, LIFE STAR requested for the expedited transport, establishing Ashlawn Farm as the landing zone (LZ). Lyme Fire officer established the LZ, identified hazards and/or FOD, and provided the precise landing area to Valley Shore dispatch using an app-based location tool, establishing an approximate 100'x75' flat grassy landing area. Lyme Ambulance 1 arrived at the LZ minutes before Lifestar 1 touched down. Patient assessed rapidly in the ambulance and transferred to Lifestar's care. Helicopter departed for Bridgeport burn unit and arrived at 09:34. LZ and incident command was cleared and terminated. Excellent teamwork by all including Connecticut State Police-Troop F Westbrook.

LYME FIRE TRAINING - INTERIOR SEARCH

Tonight we practiced interior searches at Hadlyme in our training setup behind the station. Multiple rotations of searches in a smoke filled (theatrical smoke) container with furnishings and a weighted training mannequin. Full PPE and SCBA packs, search skills, and mock communications with the goal of locating the "victim" and practicing proper rescue techniques. Emphasis on ensuring the victim is rescued keeping the upper extremities as low to the ground as possible where the lowest temperatures are found in a structure fire, with the highest percentage of breathable air. Important lifesaving measures.

LYME TANKER MUTUAL AID TO OLD LYME FOR THE STRUCTURE FIRE

Initial Level 1 extended to a Level 2 Tanker Task Force requested for the fully involved structure fire this morning. Many area towns responded mutual aid to support Old Lyme Fire Department. Detached garage fully involved upon arrival, but main residence and exposure protected and saved. Lyme Tanker 1 and approximately five other neighboring towns dispatched and on scene for water supply and overhaul support post extinguishment. No reported injuries and the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal.

Lyme Fire and Lyme Ambulance Association (Lyme EMS) supporting the annual Tour de Lyme fundraiser for the Lyme Land Trust. Beautiful day for the cycling event and a festive occasion afterwards with music and food for the riders, volunteers and supporters.

Congratulations on a successful event and we are glad to be here just in case... but have enjoyed relaxing and being staged with our Rescue, Utility and UTV, and escorting the popular family ride, keeping them safe.

TRAINING TONIGHT: LADDERS

Tonight focused on throwing ladders, a basic but important skill. Ladders not only provide access to upper stories and roofs, but are a vital firefighter alternate source of emergency egress if original paths of access are blocked or consumed by fire.

Tonight we also witnessed the evolution of knowledge, junior officers teaching newer members in these lifesaving and practical skills. Rewarding to witness the next generation ascending, literally.
