A Bushfire Survival Plan helps families decide whether to leave early or stay and defend and removes panic from the equation when it matters most.

Brookfield Rural Fire Brigade will be conducting a training burn behind our shed at 540 Boscombe Road.
This will be conducted Tuesday night starting around 7.30pm.

Today is the start of Queensland rural fire week, Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ) will celebrate the volunteers who help keep communities safe across the state.
With that Brookfield was lucky enough for two of our dedicated members Crew leader Scott Layton and Firefighter Andrew Tunny received awards today at a ceremony as well as Bruce Paynter (not in photo) We where also lucky enough to also official receive our brand new Brookfield 5.2 medium appliance.

On behalf of Brookfield Rural Fire Brigade we extend our deepest sympathies to the family, friends and colleagues of First Officer John Blake, aged 57, of Clear Mountain Rural Fire Brigade, as they gather to farewell him today.

John joined Clear Mountain RFB in 2011, serving as Secretary (2012 - 2022), Second Officer (2013 - 2020) and First Officer from 2020 until his passing on 26 May 2026.

John was also a dedicated staff member of the Queensland Fire Department, culminating as Acting Inspector, Manager Australian Fire Danger Rating System Implementation and a well-respected Fire Behavior Analyst.

Rest easy, John. Your service and contribution will be remembered.

• Learn how taking a few simple steps now can make a big difference during bushfires. Find out your bushfire risk, how to prepare your property, make an emergency plan, what to pack in an emergency kit, and where to find trusted updates.

• Healthy Land & Water’s Fire Ecology and Preparedness team will host two guided Walk and Talk sessions exploring the important role fire plays in shaping Australian landscapes. Led by specialists, the walks will cover how native plants and animals have adapted to fire over millennia, and how vegetation traits and fuel structure influence fire behaviour in our local environment. Back at our table, we’ll unpack the fire behaviour triangle, showing how fuel, weather, and landscape interact during a fire, and discuss practical actions you can take to help minimize risk. Join the team for an informal, informative, and engaging session designed for anyone with a curiosity about fire as a natural ecological process and its influence on the landscapes we call home in Brisbane.

• Connect with experts from Council’s Planned Burns team to learn more about bushfire mitigation and where planned burns are scheduled.

• Get up close to rural fire trucks and chat with your local Brookfield Rural Fire Brigade firefighters and community educators.

Due to circumstances outside of the control of Brookfield Rural Fire Brigade, the hazard reduction burn planned this weekend has been cancelled.

You may notice some drones flying about today and tomorrow in preparation for the planned burn being carried out this weekend. This is being done for mapping purposes. These will be within the area of the map posted on our prior post.

Brookfield Rural Fire Brigade is planning to conduct a hazard reduction burn on property located north of Swensons Road and east of Bindleys Road on a weekend in late September or early October 2025, weather and resources permitting. This burn will take place within the below area detailed on the map. Weather permitting we will start this burn on a Saturday morning and have crews monitoring this for a week. Smoke may be present within the area during this time.
