For half a century, the Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland has been a strong voice for our multicultural community, championing inclusion, connection and belonging.

It was wonderful to celebrate this special milestone and recognise the leaders, volunteers, advocates and community members who have shaped ECCQ’s story.

More than 8,000 kids smashed this year’s Gold Star and Little Stars Reading challenge! 👏

Since 2004, more than 130,000 kids have taken part, discovering new stories and a love of reading along the way.

We’re using AI for good, not evil.

That means Brisbane’s traffic lights are about to get a whole lot smarter 🚦🤖

From 2027, we’re giving AI the green light on Kelvin Grove Road and Logan Road.

Smart cameras will read traffic conditions in real time and adjust the lights to help keep cars moving.

Similar technology overseas has delivered:
✅ Up to 14% faster travel times
✅ 22% shorter queues
✅ Fewer crashes and red-light violations

Privacy is built in, with faces and number plates automatically blurred.

Brisbane was the only major Australian city to reduce congestion in 2025, but we’re not slowing down.

Less time stuck in traffic means more time back in your day. That’s good for jobs, good for our economy and good for Brisbane’s lifestyle.

Just a little local casually taking the safe route across our world-first koala bridge on Boundary Road near Whites Hill Reserve. 🌿

Wildlife crossings like this help protect Brisbane’s native animals by giving them a safer way to move between habitats and over busy roads.

And seeing this little one put it to good use? That’s exactly what we want to see. 💚

Ever wondered what happens to lost property that's never claimed? 🎒

Cr Sarah Hutton and I took a look inside our lost property office and it's full of surprises, phones, bags, umbrellas and some genuinely unexpected finds.

But here's the best part. If an item isn't claimed after a certain period, it doesn't go in the bin. It's donated, so it can go on to help someone else instead.

Lost something on a bus or Metro? Search 'lost property' on the Translink website to check if it's been handed in.

ARIA winner Baker Boy headlines Brisbane’s biggest free street party, with more than 30 acts across Warner Street and Brunswick Street Mall.

Free. All ages. No registration needed. One huge day for local music, including a homecoming for Worm Girlz 🪱 , who played their first ever Valley show and came through our QUBE Effect program.
