Save the Date – Prep 2027: A Day in the Life of Prep

We are excited to invite our enrolled Prep 2027 students and their families to join us for A Day in the Life of Prep at Kenmore State School.

These sessions provide an opportunity for our future Prep students to experience a morning in our Prep classrooms, meet our Early Years Team and become familiar with the school environment before starting their Kenmore journey.

Families are welcome to attend one, two or all three sessions!

To wrap up our Book Week celebrations, we were delighted to welcome popular author and illustrator Gus Gordon (The Last Peach, Norman and Rosie and Into The Bewilderness) to Kenmore!

Our Prep to Year 2 students enjoyed an engaging session learning about Gus’s writing and drawing processes. He shared how he became an author and illustrator, as well as what goes into creating a picture book from the first idea through to the finished story.

A special highlight was seeing some of our students meet Gus personally and share their love of stories, reading and creating picture books.

The photos below capture Gus’s visit, along with some of the wonderful artwork created by our students with Mrs H in the lead-up to his visit. What a fantastic way to finish our Book Week celebrations! 📚✨

Beef sausage with optional onions.

Beef patty with a slice of cheese.

🥑 Avo Sushi Roll – $4
Gluten-free & vegetarian option available. Hand-roll size.

🥢 Sweet Soy Sauce Pork Belly – $6
Served with vegetables and sticky rice.

🌭 Boerewors Roll – $8
South African sausage in a hotdog roll, with your choice of sauce.

To help us reduce food wastage and, most importantly, make sure we have enough of everyone’s favourite options, we strongly encourage families to pre-order their disco food.

Pre-ordering helps us plan quantities, minimise waste and ensure we have a great variety of food available for everyone on the night. ❤️

Teaching & learning Excellence: Cooking with Year 1
Using engaging picture books as mentor texts, our Year 1 students explored how authors organise ideas and choose language for purpose. They put this knowledge to work be designing sandwiches, writing persuasive pitches and presenting them in their very own cooking show!
From reading, to writing, to presenting - the text carried the learning.

This Thursday at 2:20pm, our next Prep Storytime session for our 2027 Prep Families will be held in our Prep Classrooms. This is an incredible opportunity for our 2027 Prep families to spend some time in their future classrooms, listen to a story and complete a craft activity.
