The 20th FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup tips off today in Berlin! 🏀

Over the next 10 days, Germany is home to the very peak of international hoops. 16 elite national teams have arrived in the German capital to compete for the world title, including a stacked Team USA roster fueled by the next generation of superstars like Caitlin Clark, Paige Bueckers, and Angel Reese — and of course, Team Germany, led by talents like Leonie Fiebich, Luisa Geiselsöder, and Frieda Bühner.

This is the second time Germany will be hosting the Women's Basketball World Cup. The first time was back in 1998, when Team USA claimed the title!

With direct qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games on the line, the stage is set for an unforgettable tournament in Berlin. Who do you think is taking home the trophy? Let us know in the comments! 🏆

We now know that Russia is responsible for the attempted explosive attack at Leipzig airport. Russia’s repeated hybrid attacks on Germany and Europe are unacceptable. Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul and Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt underscored today in Berlin the continued threat hybrid attacks pose to European and transatlantic security.

The Federal Government has outlined a response — details in the video.

This week, Asheville, NC is the center of attention of the business and financial world, as the G20 finance ministers and central bank governors are meeting.

Why does that matter beyond finance headlines?

Because no country fixes global economic problems alone anymore. Trade tensions, energy dependence, conflicts disrupting supply changes - it all crosses borders. The G20 exists so countries tackle that together instead of everyone going it alone.

German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil is participating and stated: "We're discussing at the G20 meeting how to strengthen economic growth. That's the right priority. I'm convinced the first answer is: everyone has to do their part to reduce the massive global uncertainties.”

And that’s why Germany pushes Russia to end its brutal war of aggression in Ukraine. And that is why Germany continues to push Iran to engage in serious negotiations to end the conflict and for open sea lanes through the Strait of Hormuz.

At the same time we strive to strengthen Germany and Europe from within: with investing in renewables and research and supporting a European capital market.

, August 31, 1990, West and East Germany signed the Einigungsvertrag — the Unification Treaty laying the legal groundwork for reunification. Just over a month later, on October 3, 1990, the two states formally became one, ending 45 years of division! 🇩🇪🇺🇸

Reunification also stands as a testament to the deep partnership between Germany and the United States. President George H.W. Bush was a steadfast supporter of German unity from the start, working closely with Chancellor Kohl and helping secure international agreement — including Soviet acceptance of united Germany's NATO membership — through the "Two Plus Four" negotiations.

A moment of German history, that’s rooted in transatlantic friendship. 🕊️

Georgiana Rose Simpson broke barriers as a scholar of German—and in doing so, helped broaden the German-American story.

In this installment of Shaping 250 — Faces of the German American Story, we remember Simpson, who in 1921 became one of the first Black women in America to earn a PhD, with her doctorate in German studies.

Her story reminds us that the German-American experience has never belonged to one community alone. It has also been shaped by Americans who embraced German language, culture, and scholarship.

Simpson’s courage and persistence opened doors for generations of scholars to follow. 🇩🇪🇺🇸
