We had a special guest at the Embassy 🤖🇨🇿

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Washington, DC, was delighted to welcome Sophia from Hanson Robotics and introduce her to Ambassador Miloslav Stašek.

The visit also highlighted Czech talent in robotics: Sophia’s development and maintenance are overseen by Jakub Šura, a graduate of the Robotics program at ČVUT in Prague, who gave us a behind-the-scenes look at how Sophia works and demonstrated some of her capabilities.

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Washington, DC, hosted a reception to mark Czech Armed Forces Day and commemorate the enduring partnership between the Czech Republic and the United States on June 10, 2026.

Representatives of the United States Armed Forces, National Guard partners, members of the diplomatic corps, defense industry representatives, veterans, and friends of the Czech Republic celebrated the longstanding transatlantic partnership and shared commitment to peace, freedom, and collective security.

A special feature of this year’s reception was the display of a historic Czech flag loaned by the Louis Miller Museum in Hoosick Falls, New York. The flag, symbolizing the historical bonds between Czech Americans and their homeland, was loaned last year to the Military History Institute in Prague, where it was exhibited as part of the commemorative events marking the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Czechoslovakia. The flag will be ceremonially returned to the museum.

Among those addressing the guests included Czech Ambassador Miloslav Stašek; Czech Defense Attaché, Brigadier General Martin Sikora; Brigadier General J. Lewis representing the Texas National Guard; and Brigadier General G. A. Ropers representing the Nebraska National Guard. The speakers highlighted the strength of Czech-American defense cooperation, including long-standing partnerships with the US National Guard units, joint military exercises, and close collaboration in support of regional and global security.

During the evening, Brigadier General Martin Sikora expressed sincere appreciation to Ambassador Stašek, who will soon conclude his diplomatic mission in Washington, for his steadfast support of defense cooperation and transatlantic relations throughout his tenure. He also thanked Major Dana Stašková, who will likewise be concluding her assignment in Washington, for her valuable cooperation, professionalism, and contribution to the work of the Embassy community.

The evening was moderated by Jan Novotný, Assistant Defense, Military, Air and Naval Attaché, whose guidance contributed to the smooth and dignified course of the event.

The Embassy of the Czech Republic extends its sincere thanks to all guests and partners whose participation commemorated Czech Armed Forces Day and reaffirmed the close partnership between the Czech Republic and the United States.

On June 10, the Director of the Military History Institute in Prague (VHÚ), Brigadier General Mgr. Aleš Knížek, presented the prestigious General Rudolf Medek Memorial Medal to Czech Ambassador Miloslav Stašek and all members of the Defense Attaché Office in Washington, DC, as an expression of gratitude for their long-term support, outstanding representation, and active development of mutual cooperation.

The General Rudolf Medek Memorial Medal, an honorary decoration awarded by the VHÚ, is deeply rooted in history and carries the legacy of General Rudolf Medek, a distinguished Czechoslovak legionnaire and writer. He served as the very first director of the Monument of Liberation (Památník odboje), an organization whose tradition continues through the Military History Institute.

The ceremonial presentation on the grounds of the Embassy of the Czech Republic highlights the esteemed relations and seamless coordination among military history, diplomacy, and the defense sectors of the Czech Republic abroad. Congratulations to all the recipients!
