On June 10, the Embassy of France in Washington, D.C. and Monnaie de Paris will convene leading voices from government, academia, finance, and the numismatic world for a special symposium exploring the evolution of money, from the birth of modern republics to the digital revolution.
As part of the Embassy’s America 250 programming, the afternoon will feature two discussions: one exploring the Franco-American story through numismatics and the second examining questions about the future of money and how rules governing it are being rewritten. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to see a rare exhibition of historical medals and coins and the unveiling of the Washington-Lafayette commemorative coins marking America’s 250th anniversary.
Speakers include Founder of Mid-American Rare Coin Galleries Jeff Garrett; Professor of Marketing at Johns Hopkins University Joël Le Bon; Former President of the American Numismatic Association and former Chairman of the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) Thomas D. Uram; US Mint Director Paul Hollis; Chief Policy Officer of Coinbase and former economic advisor to President George W. Bush Faryar Shirzad; Monnaie de Paris General Engraver Joaquin Jimenez; Monnaie de Paris Collection Manager Julien Sabouret; and Monnaie de Paris Chairman and CEO Marc Schwartz.
