Twenty-five years after 9/11, we remember the 2,977 lives lost and honor all those affected by the attacks.

This week in New York, 2,977 drones briefly recreated the outlines of the Twin Towers in light โ€“ a moving tribute co-created by Dutch artists DRIFT .

Today, we look to the sky in remembrance and solidarity with our American friends.

The creative collective consists of creative director Addison Mehr, Studio DRIFT as artistic advisor, Pritzker Prize-winning architect Shigeru Ban, Dean Maltz, and designer Yan Paul Dubbelman. The production was realized by Addison Mehr and Sky Elements.

Twenty-five years ago, the attacks of September 11, 2001, took the lives of 2,977 people and changed the world.

Today, we remember the victims, their families and loved ones, and the courage of the first responders and all who helped. We also think of those whose lives were forever altered by that day and its aftermath.

In the days that followed, allies rallied around the United States. The Netherlands stood with its American friends in solidarity, united by a shared commitment to freedom, security, and democratic values. That commitment has endured. Over the past 25 years, Dutch and American service members have continued to serve side by side.

A quarter-century on, the memory of 9/11 remains with us, as does the lesson that we must stand together when our freedom and security are threatened.

We remember those we lost. We honor those who responded. And we remain standing together.

Ambassador Birgitta Tazelaar hosted leaders, colleagues, and the at the residence last night to talk about the effort to build a memorial in Washington, D.C. to the enduring values of resilience, grit, and international friendship championed by John, Abigail, and John Quincy Adams.

The highlight of the evening? A surprise visit from a John Adams impersonator (Peyton Dixon), honoring America's first Ambassador to the Netherlands! ๐Ÿ“œโœจ

Before he became the second president of the United States, John Adams was a diplomatic titan who secured the 1782 alliance between our two nations ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ and the vital loans that helped the young American republic.

Thank you to Congressman Morgan Griffith, U.S. Representative Bill Keating, Representative Stephen F. Lynch and Congressman John Moolenaar for joining us.

In sports, the final score is only part of the story. The rest of the story is in the connection built among communities far beyond the game. โšฝ๐Ÿงก

Weโ€™re proud to support by donating 26 orange NL soccer balls on the last day of its summer camp at LaSalle-Backus ES!

From the field to the playground, we believe in using the game to inspire, bring people together, and give back to the D.C. community weโ€™re so glad to be a part of.

The countdown to is on! ๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ

We were thrilled to welcome Marc van den Tweel and Esther Acda Spierdijk from NOC*NSF to Washington D.C., San Francisco, and Los Angeles this week. With exactly 24 months to go, this working visit sets the stage for incredible transatlantic collaboration ahead of both the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The road to LA28 is about much more than medals. Itโ€™s about building bridges.

Right now, athletes are training on the West Coast, and early venue scouting is well underway to ensure our Olympic and Paralympic teams are fully prepared to perform at the highest level.

This visit also marked the launch of The Orange Alliance, a premier business initiative connecting the Dutch sports ecosystem with American partners. T

he Games are a massive economic catalyst, and Dutch organizations are ready to bring world-class innovation to the US, including:
๐Ÿ”น Tech-driven performance tools for athletes
๐Ÿ”น Advanced stadium logistics, hybrid grass, and crowd management
๐Ÿ”น Data-driven health tech and well-being solutions
๐Ÿ”น Frameworks to improve community sports access and inclusivity

We look forward to working closely with NOC*NSF to showcase the absolute best of Dutch innovation, sports diplomacy, and partnership over the next two years.

Check out some highlights from the visit below! ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ“ธ

Twelve years later, we will never forget the 298 innocent lives taken on Flight MH17. Our hearts go out to the families whose lives were changed forever. We stand together with our global partners in keeping their memory alive. ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

Zodat zij in gedachten voortleven.

Ik wens de nabestaanden op deze moeilijke dag veel sterkte en troost toe.

Before the United States won its independence, a small Dutch island in the Caribbean was already backing the revolution. ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Without the free port of St. Eustatius (Statia), the Continental Army might have lacked the critical military supplies and gunpowder needed to survive the battlefields of the American Revolution.

Read all about it in this article from The Conversation US:

The American Revolution was won not just by ideals and armies, but by the strategic trade networks of a small Caribbean port.

Happy birthday, USA! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ ๐ŸŽ‰

Slagroomtaart, or Dutch cream cake, is a traditional birthday cake we eat at birthday parties. The cake is sweet, fresh, and fruity.

To make the celebration โ€˜โ€™gezelligโ€™โ€™ (sociable/pleasant), we gather our loved ones, enjoy a slice of cake, and sit in a big circle. Traditional cakes in the Netherlands also include apple pie, and vlaai, which is more known in southern parts.
