Van Wert Fire Department With a rich history serving the people of Van Wert since 1869, The Van Wert Fire Department works to prevent the loss of life & property.

The Van Wert Fire Department is an ISO rated class four paid department, whose primary response district is the City of Van Wert. This area is approximately 10 square miles and protects a population of 10,846. Van Wert Fire Department is authorized a staff strength of 19. Our firefighters continue to work in a three platoon system, with three shifts of six personnel. Each shift is staffed with one

Captain and one Lieutenant. The full time firefighters are augmented by a paid on-call reserve force of ten firefighters.

📚🚒 It’s Back-to-School Time! 🚒📚

We decided to jump on the back-to-school photo trend with our very own Firefighter Scott!

We may have missed the first week of school, but we made sure to capture the second as FF Scott begins a new chapter of his own.

Firefighter Scott is assigned to Shift 3 and has officially started his 10-week training at the Ohio Fire Academy, where he’ll complete the training required for his firefighter certification.

Once completed, Scott will return home as a certified Firefighter II and EMT-Basic, ready to serve the citizens of Van Wert as a member of the Van Wert Fire Department.

The classroom might look a little different, and recess probably involves hose lines and ladders, but we’re excited to watch him take this next step.

Congratulations to Shift 2 members Lt. Steyer, Senior Firefighter King, and Firefighter Barrett for having a successful cardiac arrest resuscitation on 6/11/26 and being recognized by Zoll. Van Wert FD uses Zoll heart monitors as well as their automated CPR device. Great job!!

The Van Wert Fire Department would like to extend its sincere thanks to Josh McDougall for his generous donation of a Traeger smoker grill to the department. We truly appreciate his support and kindness.

Our firefighters are excited to put the smoker to good use and look forward to enjoying many great meals together. Thank you, Josh, for your generosity and continued support of our department!

We spent the morning assisting County Electric in servicing all of the tornado sirens in the City of Van Wert. This is just another way that we help keep the city safe.

We are pleased to announce that our smoke detector program, No Child Sleeps Unprotected, has received a grant through the Van Wert County Foundation. This money will help continue providing smoke detectors to every kindergarten student from Van Wert County. This program has provided nearly 7000 smoke detectors since the Van Wert County Fire Chiefs started the program in 2014.

Donations to the program can be made through the Van Wert County Foundation at 138 E. Main St. Van Wert,OH 45891 and directed to the County Smoke Detector Fund.

Van Wert Fire conducted annual SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus) and fire extinguisher training this week for corrections officers and staff at the Van Wert County Jail. The hands-on training provided personnel with valuable experience in the proper use of respiratory protection equipment and fire extinguishers, helping to ensure preparedness and safety in emergency situations. Van Wert Fire & EMS appreciates the opportunity to partner with jail staff in maintaining a safe environment for employees and inmates alike
