🌱 **Finishing touches on Old Cazadero Road**
Contractors completed erosion-control work last week, installing netting and applying hydroseed along the repaired slope.

The netting helps hold soil in place while new vegetation takes root. That green coating is the hydroseed application, which helps establish plant growth and reduce erosion.

These photos show the slope before and after hydroseeding, alongside the new retaining wall and guardrail.

Thank you to the crews for their work and to the community for your patience throughout the repairs.

🌊 Storm Ready: Check conditions before you head out
Recent King Tide flooding in Marin County and elsewhere in the Bay Area reminds us that road conditions can change quickly. News footage has shown stranded drivers and vehicles left in floodwater.

Floodwater may look shallow, but 6 inches may cause you to lose control of your vehicle. Just 12 inches of rushing water can carry away most cars.

Check conditions, allow extra time, and never drive through floodwater or around a barricade. Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

Good energy. Big milestone. ⚡🚌

In case you missed it, here’s a look at yesterday’s ribbon cutting celebrating Sonoma County Transit’s new electric bus charging system and seven new electric buses!

Years of planning, teamwork, and funding partnerships brought this project to life. With backup power to keep buses charging during outages, it supports cleaner everyday travel and helps Transit stay ready when our community needs it most.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, our project partners, and the staff whose work made this celebration possible. Thank you, Sonoma County, for riding with us!

Cutting the ribbon on cleaner transit! ✂️⚡🚌

Getting to work. Making a doctor’s appointment. Reaching safety during an emergency. Today’s ribbon cutting celebrated the infrastructure and partnerships that help Sonoma County Transit serve our community.

Hear from Director Johannes Hoevertsz and former Transit Manager Bryan Albee about the years of work behind the charging facility, James Cameron about the regional funding collaboration involving five transit operators, and Chair Rebecca Hermosillo about transit’s everyday impact, including its role in evacuations during the 2017 and 2019 fires.

The program featured remarks from:

• Public Infrastructure Director Johannes Hoevertsz
• Board of Supervisors Chair Rebecca Hermosillo
• County Executive Officer David Guhin
• Transit Manager Emily Betts
• Former Transit Manager Bryan Albee
• James Cameron of SCTCA
• Marvin J. Lopez of Caltrans

Thank you to the staff, contractors, and federal, state, and local partners who helped make this milestone possible!

🚧 Wohler Bridge: Evening Construction Work Tuesday, Oct. 27

Crews will begin work at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, applying a protective polyester overlay to the two Wohler Bridge deck sections that were not removed or demolished.

These two sections—Span 1 and Span 5, on either side of the bridge—still contain the original 104-year-old concrete deck. The coating will help protect the historic concrete surface from wear and weather.

What to expect:
- Noise from surface preparation, equipment, and trucks
- Generator-powered lighting after sunset
- Temporary odors from the overlay materials

Work is expected to continue into the evening. The bridge remains closed to all traffic during construction.

We appreciate the community's patience as crews complete another step toward reopening this historic crossing.

🚧 Road Work Update: Asti Crossing & Winter Preparations 🚧
Asti Seasonal Crossing Update: Sonoma County Public Infrastructure continues to monitor weather conditions to determine when the Asti summer crossing on Washington School Road will need to close for seasonal removal.

Crews have requested permit extensions to allow the crossing to remain in place while conditions permit. No closure date has been confirmed. We'll provide as much advance notice as possible once a removal date is established.

Meanwhile, Road Maintenance crews are continuing drainage improvements, erosion control, and pothole repairs across Sonoma County as we prepare for winter weather.

This week's work includes:
- Constructing a rock riprap wall on Geysers Road near Red Winery Road to help stabilize the roadside and prevent erosion
- Replacing culverts on St. Helena Road and Wilshire Road
- Cleaning roadside ditches and culverts along River Road, Old Monte Rio Road, Watmaugh Road, and other locations
- Patching potholes and removing roadside debris
- Cutting brush with CAL FIRE and mowing roadside vegetation
- Maintaining bridges, traffic signs, and pavement markings

Several of these critical drainage and erosion control projects are moving forward under emergency permits, allowing crews to complete work ahead of the rainy season.

📸 This week's photos: AC berm repair on Poplar Avenue. Crews repaired the asphalt concrete berm along the roadway edge. These raised asphalt barriers help direct stormwater toward drainage areas, reducing erosion and protecting the road's edge from water damage.

Thank you to our Road Maintenance crews for their continued efforts. Please slow down, stay alert, and give crews plenty of room to work safely.
