💙 April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness and strengthen our commitment to protecting children and supporting families in our community.
Earlier this month, the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors presented a Gold Resolution declaring April 2026 as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Sonoma County, recognizing the ongoing work to prevent and address child abuse and support children and families.
💙 In 2025, the Sonoma County Human Services Department Family, Youth & Children’s Services division:
• Allocated $1.15 million to support prevention services in the community
• Responded to 1,665 reports of child abuse requiring in-person investigation
• Provided protection by separating 103 children from their homes due to abuse or neglect
• Supported over 400 children in foster care
• Partnered with families and community organizations through 392 Child and Family Team meetings to coordinate services and strengthen family stability
Preventing child abuse is a shared responsibility. Community members, parents, youth, local tribes, and partner organizations across Sonoma County continue working together to expand prevention, education, and support services that help families thrive.
On April 24, the Children’s Memorial Flag will be raised at the County Center in honor of children impacted by abuse and to reaffirm our commitment to prevention and healing.
Together, we can create safer, stronger communities for all children. 💙
