SUN Bucks - A Summer Food Program for Children
California’s Summer EBT program, also known as SUN Bucks, provides $120 per eligible child to help families buy food during the summer when school is out.

Most eligible children get SUN Bucks automatically. Other families must apply for SUN Bucks benefits at their child's school.

Getting and using SUN Bucks does not affect a family’s immigration status. Children who get SUN Bucks can still participate in other food assistance programs, like CalFresh and Summer Meal Programs.

For cardholder assistance, the SUN Bucks helpline is available at (877) 328-9677. The helpline provides automated support 24 hours a day, seven days per week. Live agents are available Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. – 8 p.m. To check your benefit balance and claim status, visit the California EBT cardholder website.

is International Fathers’ Mental Health Day Although most of us—men and women alike—are socialized to think of men as providers of support during the perinatal period and early parenthood, a wealth of research shows that 10% of new dads experience paternal postpartum depression (50% when mom is depressed!) and tend to need support of their own. However, the stigma against experiencing difficulties in early parenthood is even higher for men than for women. Society views men as stoic, self-sacrificing, and above all, strong. When men feel none of those things as new fathers, they don’t want to admit it or seek help.

For this reason, Postpartum Support International is an enthusiastic supporter of IFMHD as a means to take a whole-family, father-inclusive approach by shedding light on the best practices and related resources for dads, their partners, and those who support them.

Founded by paternal postpartum depression survivor Mark Williams and former PSI board member Dr. Daniel Singley, IFMHD is now managed by Gidget Foundation Australia. IFMHD takes place the day after Father’s Day to launch a focused social media campaign that highlights key aspects of fathers’ mental health.
Studies show one in ten dads experiences postpartum depression, and 5-15% develop a anxiety disorder such as generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder at some point during the pregnancy or the first year postpartum.

It is important to know that you are not alone, and Perinatal Mental Health Disorders are treatable.

This Black Maternal Health Week, we are calling attention to the Centering Black Mothers in California report. This report shows how structural racism impacts the health of Black mothers and their babies.

We all can promote better birthing outcomes by:

Making sure all neighborhoods have what families need to thrive, such as safe housing, clean air, parks and access to services and opportunity.
Ending racism and racist policies to reduce chronic stress. Chronic stress is linked to high blood pressure and can cause pregnancy complications.
Ensuring access to high-quality and respectful care, regardless of race.

National Minority Health Month is observed every April to raise awareness about health disparities affecting racial and ethnic minority communities and to promote health equity. Led by the HHS Office of Minority Health, it focuses on education, early detection, and reducing chronic disease burdens through community-driven initiatives.

Key Aspects of National Minority Health Month:

Purpose: The initiative, established by Congress in 2002, aims to reduce the disproportionate burden of premature death and illness among minority populations.

Each year on March 31, the world observes Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) to raise awareness about transgender people. It is a day to celebrate the lives and contributions of trans people, while also drawing attention to the disproportionate levels of poverty, discrimination, and violence the community faces compared to cisgender (non-transgender) people.

International TDOV was created in 2010 by trans advocate Rachel Crandall. Crandall, the head of Transgender Michigan, created TDOV in response to the overwhelming majority of media stories about transgender people being focused on violence. She hoped to create a day where people could celebrate the lives of transgender people, while simultaneously acknowledging that due to discrimination, not every trans person can or wants to be visible.
