CLASS Environment focuses on the classroom environment and the ways it can support meaningful interactions between educators and children.

CLASS Environment looks at classroom materials, displays, and arrangements and how they support children’s learning and development. It considers whether the environment provides children with meaningful opportunities to explore, learn, and engage with the materials and spaces around them.

Language Modeling is one dimension within the Instructional Support domain of Pre-K–3 CLASS 2nd Edition.

This dimension focuses on the quality and quantity of educators’ language, including conversations with children, narration, repeating and expanding on children’s language, asking open-ended questions, and using and explaining new vocabulary.

Quality of Feedback is one dimension within the Instructional Support domain of Pre-K–3 CLASS 2nd Edition.

This dimension focuses on how educators support children’s learning through hints, back-and-forth exchanges, and additional information. Educators encourage children to explain their thinking, reflect on how they arrived at an answer, and provide specific, individualized feedback that helps children expand their understanding.
