The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch in Eaton and Ingham counties from this afternoon (June 17) through late tonight. Heavy rain (2-5 inches) is expected, which may result in flooding of creeks, streams, low-lying/flood-prone locations, poor drainage areas, and urban areas.

FLOOD WATCH issued June 17 at 3:05AM EDT until June 18 at 2:00AM EDT by US National Weather Service Grand Rapids Michigan

🌊WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

📍WHERE...Portions of south central and southwest Michigan, including the following counties, in south central Michigan, Calhoun, Eaton, Ingham and Jackson. In southwest Michigan, Allegan, Barry, Kalamazoo and Van Buren.

⏰ WHEN...From this afternoon through late tonight.

⚠️IMPACTS...Heavy rain may result in flooding of creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.

➕ ADDITIONAL DETAILS...There is a potential for 2 to 4 inches of rain, locally up to 5 inches, to fall in portions of the watch area from mid afternoon into the evening.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roads.

As the heat index rises this evening into tomorrow, so does the threat of severe weather. See what the US National Weather Service Grand Rapids Michigan has to say about the next 48 hours. With the impending rise in temperatures, if you are planning to be outside, be sure to hydrate, take frequent breaks, and know the signs of heat stroke (https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/heat-stroke/symptoms-causes/syc-20353581). During regular business hours, the Delta Township District Library will serve as a cooling center to help those in need take a break from the heat.

We are excited to welcome Assistant Chief Eric Arnold to Delta Township. He has valuable credentials, and we are excited to have him join our department.

Delta Township has named Eric Arnold as its new Assistant Fire Chief. Arnold joins the Delta Township Fire Department with more than 25 years of experience in the fire service. Chief Arnold has dedicated his career to serving the community, strengthening department operations, and leading firefighters with integrity, accountability, and professionalism.

“I am excited for the opportunity to serve the Delta Township community and become part of an organization that is widely respected for its superior service, expertise, and professionalism,” said Chief Arnold. “I look forward to working alongside Delta’s dedicated fire professionals who make this department a success. I am eager to step into this administrative role, where I hope to provide strategic leadership through an effective, forward-thinking fire department capable of meeting the evolving needs of this community.”
