Newborn Screening is a public health program required by Michigan law to find babies with rare but serious disorders that require early treatment. All babies need to be tested in order to find the small number who look healthy but have a rare medical condition. For more information, visit Michigan.gov/NewbornScreening.

We thank Governor Gretchen Whitmer for signing an executive order to take focused action to make the recommendations of the Michigan Gun Violence Prevention Task Force a reality.

Learn more about the task force and read the final report here: https://bit.ly/4u3R1yN.

In this country, and only in this country, guns are the #1 killer of young people. Michigan knows this pain all too well. We’ve seen it in in our schools and universities, places of worship and places of employment — we shouldn’t have to live like this.

We need action.

I am proud of our progress:

✅Universal Background Checks
✅Safe storage requirements
✅Stronger red flag laws
✅Record investments in public safety
✅Establishing the first ever Gun Violence Prevention Task Force

We’ve got a lot done to protect communities, but we can’t stop here.

Last year the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force released a report with proven strategies to save more lives in Michigan.

Today, I'm signing an executive order to take focused action to make these recommendations a reality. Here's how we further protect our communities ⬇️

🔸Banning ghost guns
🔸Waiting periods for firearm purchases
🔸Stronger school safety
🔸Support for community intervention
🔸Better victim support services
🔸Improvements on safe firearm storage education

Let’s get this done and build a safer, brighter future for Michigan.

Medicare Fraud Prevention Week is observed each year during the week of June 5, also referred to as 6/5, because most people qualify for Medicare at age 65. It serves as a reminder that awareness and early reporting are key to preventing fraud and protecting public resources. Fraud impacts Medicare beneficiaries by creating unnecessary stress and potentially delaying approved health care services. It also affects families, friends and caregivers who may miss work or experience significant worry as they help loved ones recover from fraud.

The MMR vaccine provides lifelong immunity. Getting both doses—recommended at 12–15 months and again at 4–6 years old—offers the best protection and helps stop the spread of measles.

It’s important to know your vaccination status, and for parents to check their child’s records. If you aren’t sure, reach out to your health care provider. They can review records, answer questions and help determine if additional doses are recommended for your situation.

Millions of Americans are living with viral hepatitis, but many do not know it because there are often no symptoms.

There is no cure for hepatitis B, but treatments can delay or reduce the risk of developing liver cancer. Treatments are available that can cure hepatitis C with only 8-12 weeks of oral medication. Talk to your health care provider about testing and treatment for hepatitis B and C.
