Michigan's Office of Employment and Training (E&T) provides services to the state’s residents and businesses through the Bureau of Services for Blind Persons (BSBP), Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS), and Workforce Development (WD). Under the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO), the Office of Employment and Training (E&T) provides services to the state’s residents and businesses through the Bureau of Services for Blind Persons (BSBP), Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS), and Workforce Development (WD). BSBP believes in the capacity of people who are blind or visually impaired to achieve employment and independence, providing training and other services that empower people to achieve their individual goals. MRS provides specialized employment and education-related services and training to assist teens and adults with disabilities in becoming employed or retaining employment. WD supports a demand driven workforce system, assists the structurally unemployed with financial independence, advocates for the integration of workforce development into the K-12 school system, and supports the alignment of workforce development with economic development efforts. We're excited to announce the launch of the Michigan Apprenticeship Pathways for Special Education (MAPS) initiative, offering Registered Apprenticeship opportunities for paraprofessionals, instructional assistants, substitute teachers and other school-based employees interested in becoming fully certified special education teachers in partnership with Michigan Department of Education, Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential, Alma College & the AFL-CIO Workforce Development Institute.

Backed by a five-year United States Department of Education award totaling $1,007,235, MAPS leverages Michigan’s existing workforce and apprenticeship systems to create a coordinated statewide approach that connects workforce development, higher education, teacher preparation, certification and local school districts.
