Mark your calendars for the 2026 Metro Detroit Parkinson Hero Walk! This year’s event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 10 a.m. at the UWM Field in Utica.

The Michigan Parkinson Foundation's Hero Walks are community-driven fundraising events held across Michigan that bring together individuals, families, and care partners to raise awareness and critical funds for local Parkinson’s programs. Every dollar raised supports their four pillars of care: community, education, exercise, and respite.

U.S. Marine Corps veteran Julio needed to find a new career due to changes in his circumstances, so he stopped by the Michigan Works! Southeast Lenawee Service Center for support.

Once Julio identified himself as a veteran, Michigan Works! Southeast staff connected him with Veterans’ Employment Services (VES), where he got the personalized support all veterans receive.

Together with his Veterans’ Career Advisor, Julio worked to update his resume, prepare for his job search and conduct interview prep to set him up for success.

Within a few short weeks, Julio interviewed for and was offered a position with Rima Manufacturing, a local veteran-friendly employer.
