Check out the Fairfield County Special Operations Water Rescue Unit in action as they sharpen their skills and prepare for water-related emergencies.

Thank you to the Lancaster Parks and Recreation Department for the use of Cenci Lake and South Central Power Co. for the use of its pond. South Central Power also helped provide equipment through its Community Round Up Grant.

We’re also grateful to the NiSource Community Foundation Public Safety Grant for helping fund certifications.

Saturday, October 24th is DEA National Rx Take Back Day. This is an opportunity to safely dispose of unneeded medications and learn more about participating locations in our area:

Turn in unneeded medication for safe disposal on Saturday, October 24th from 10am – 2 pm

The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office, along with Fairfield County Soil and Water Conservation, The City of Canal Wi******er, Diley Ridge Medical Center and Violet Township will be participating in the DEA National Rx Take Back Day at the following locations.

*The DEA and its partners will collect tablets, capsules, patches, and other forms of prescription drugs. Collection sites will not accept syringes, sharps, or illicit drugs. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain tightly sealed in their original container. The event will accept va**ng devices and cartridges provided lithium batteries are removed.

Electronics recycling will be available at the Violet Township location, and the Diley Ridge location will offer document shredding throughout the event.

**Disposal fees apply for certain items, such as televisions and computer monitors. Only laptop, vehicle, exit lights, and UPS batteries will be accepted. No other batteries will be accepted. Only cash or checks will be accepted. No Credit Cards.

***Document shredding provided by Ohio Mobile Shredding will take place off site and there is a limit of five (5) boxes or paper bags per vehicle. No plastic bags or business records will be accepted.

Happy 95th birthday to Bob Clark!

Bob has dedicated much of his life to serving his country and community. He served in the Army National Guard, worked with Ohio EMA, and later served as a Planning Specialist with Fairfield County EMA from 2011 to 2014. His years of service reflect a lasting commitment to helping others.

We’re grateful for the time and experience he shared with our agency and for a lifetime of service that has made a difference in the communities he served.

Remnants from Hurricane Isaias will impact the Ohio Valley this weekend. Breezy conditions will develop Saturday as the system approaches, with the strongest winds Saturday evening into early Sunday (gusts of 25-35 MPH). Widespread rain will occur and some storms are also possible. Most areas will see 1/2" to 1 1/2" of rainfall, potentially 2" in a few locations.
