🎃🚸 Tuesday Traffic Tip – Halloween Pedestrian Safety! 🚸🎃

With Halloween just a few days away, the Emmaus Police Department would like to remind motorists to use extra caution while traveling through neighborhoods this weekend!

👻 Trick-or-treaters will be out and about, so remember these important safety tips:

🚗 SLOW DOWN: Reduce your speed in residential neighborhoods and areas where children may be walking.

👀 WATCH FOR PEDESTRIANS: Children may unexpectedly enter the roadway or cross between parked vehicles.

🚸 BE EXTRA CAUTIOUS AT CROSSWALKS: Always watch for pedestrians and yield when required.

📱 AVOID DISTRACTIONS: Put down your phone and keep your attention on the road.

🌙 USE EXTRA CAUTION AFTER DARK: Costumes and dark clothing can make pedestrians harder to see.

🎃 EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED: Children may be excited, distracted, or focused on getting to the next house!

Remember: A few extra seconds of caution can help prevent a tragedy.

🍬 Let's work together to keep Halloween safe and enjoyable for everyone!

🚨🚓 Tuesday Traffic Tip – MOVE OVER, SLOW DOWN! 🚓🚨

The Emmaus Police Department would like to remind motorists about PA Motor Vehicle Code 75 Pa.C.S. § 3327 – Duty of Driver in Emergency Response Areas and in Relation to Disabled Vehicles, commonly known as Pennsylvania's Move Over Law.

🚗 What does the law require?

When approaching an emergency response area, drivers must:

➡️ MOVE OVER: Safely move into a lane that is not directly next to the emergency response area, if possible.

🐢 SLOW DOWN: If moving over is impossible, illegal, or unsafe, drivers must reduce their speed to no more than 20 MPH below the posted speed limit, while traveling at a speed reasonable for the conditions.

🚨 When does this law apply?

The law protects emergency responders and others working along our roadways, including:

🚓 Police officers conducting traffic stops
🚒 Firefighters and emergency personnel
🚑 Ambulance and EMS crews
🚛 Tow truck operators providing roadside assistance
⚠️ Qualifying disabled vehicles displaying at least two warning devices, such as hazard lights, warning signs, or road flares

⚖️ Violations can be costly!

Failure to comply can result in fines of:

• Up to $500 for a first offense
• Up to $1,000 for a second offense
• Up to $2,000 for a third or subsequent offense

Additional penalties, including license suspension, may apply in certain circumstances.

🚨 Remember: The people working along our roadways are someone's family members, friends, and neighbors. Give them the space they need to do their jobs safely!

SEE FLASHING LIGHTS? MOVE OVER OR SLOW DOWN!
