Today, we pause to remember the heroes of D-Day and honor the courage, sacrifice, and selfless service of the Allied forces who stormed the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944.

Their bravery helped secure freedom for future generations and serves as a lasting reminder of the cost of liberty. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office proudly remembers those who answered the call and gave so much for our nation.

We will never forget their sacrifice.

We hear you.

Our deputies and School Resource Officers are out in force addressing the growing concerns surrounding e-motorcycles in our neighborhoods. On Friday alone, they responded to dozens of calls. The average age of riders contacted was just 12-14 years old, both boys and girls.

Every rider was issued a written warning, and every parent was contacted and warned. If these violations continue, parents could face criminal charges for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The e-motorcycles were released to parents, who were required to load them up and take them home.

Please help us before someone gets seriously hurt or killed.

We’re not trying to take away anyone’s fun. We understand these bikes are popular, and we want kids to enjoy their summer. But many of these vehicles are not street legal, and we’re seeing dangerous behavior on public roads, around vehicles, pedestrians, and neighborhoods.

This is about safety for the riders, drivers, and everyone sharing our roads.

Parents, please know what your kids are riding, where they’re riding, and the laws that apply.

Youth Hockey Coach Arrested for Child S*x Crimes; Detectives Seek Additional Victims

On June 4, 2026, detectives with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested 40-year-old Rory Nathaniel Mushlin following a tip he was engaged in inappropriate behavior with minors.

Mushlin, a resident of Colorado Springs, is being held on suspicion of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, unlawful electronic sexual communication – person of trust, obscenity, and internet sexual exploitation of a child. He was taken into custody without incident.

Since January 2023, Mushlin served as the ice and facilities manager at South Suburban.

Investigators have learned the roller hockey team Mushlin coached practiced in Parker and Colorado Springs.

Douglas County detectives have identified multiple underage victims. Because of the suspect's coaching position and regular interaction with youth sports programs, investigators are working to ensure all potential victims are identified and provided with support.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is actively encouraging anyone with information, or parents who believe their child may have had contact with the suspect under concerning circumstances, to reach out to Detective Clay at [email protected].

Mushlin was transported to the Douglas County Detention Facility. A judge set his bond at $75,000.

All charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

This is still an open and active investigation. No additional information will be released at this time.
