As preventive maintenance for sewer lines, Castle Rock Water has contracted with QP Services to conduct an acoustic sewer line assessment. From Sept. 8 through Oct. 20, crews will use sound technology to check for possible weaknesses in sewer lines. This year's assessment will focus on areas of Castle Rock east of Interstate 25.

Testing takes about 15 minutes at each selected manhole as a small device is lowered into the sewer. There will be no impact to water or sewer service, but nearby residents may hear a brief noise, which will typically last less than five minutes at each assessment site.

Lanes may be closed or diverted for short times. Please watch for workers at manholes and follow any directions they provide.

In observance of Labor Day, Town of Castle Rock offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7.

The Castle Rock Recreation Center will have modified hours from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Miller Activity Complex will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Cantril School will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Know before you go! Here are road projects and events around Town that could impact your travels. Please know, timeframes for roadwork are weather-dependent and subject to change:

🚧: Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8, through approximately Tuesday, Sept. 22, the Colorado Department of Transportation will conduct emergency culvert repairs on State Highway 85 between Meadows and Promenade parkways. Highway 85 will be reduced to one lane in each direction, and access to the highway from the New Beale Street roundabout will be closed. Drivers should expect delays in the area and allow extra time for travel.

🚧: Starting Wednesday, Sept. 9, for approximately one week, watch for alternating lane shifts and closures on the State Highway 85 bridge near Black Feather Trail and Front Street for crack sealing. Highway 85 will be reduced to one lane in each direction near the Front Street intersection.

🚧: On Wednesday, Sept. 9, watch for lane shifts on Wilcox Street near the Festival Park crosswalk while crews inspect canopy lights. Motorists should watch for workers and changing traffic patterns. Pedestrians should follow marked detour signage in the area.

📆 If you are a resident of Red Hawk, The Meadows or Castle Highlands, you're invited to attend an informal open house to meet with District 1 Councilmember Ryan Hollingshead and District 3 Councilmember Kevin Bracken from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at The Grange, 3692 Meadows Blvd.

No formal presentation ... just casual conversations. Councilmembers Hollingshead and Bracken, and Town staff will be available to share updates and answer your questions.

Directional signage on a property with a lot of caprock can be challenging. We use these directional arrows placed on marker posts, trees and even the caprock itself to help people find their way. At Lost Canyon Ranch, the color of the arrow also corresponds to the map color of the trail loop you are traveling.

As a result of customer conservation efforts, Castle Rock Water returned to Stage 1 drought restrictions on Sept. 1.

Castle Rock Water invoked Stage 2 drought restrictions on July 19 due to extremely hot and dry weather, limited surface water supplies and sustained excessive demand. As a result of customer conservation efforts, Castle Rock Water returned to Stage 1 drought restrictions on Sept. 1.

Over the past month, Castle Rock Water customers responded to the restrictions, significantly reducing outdoor irrigation and lowering daily water demand by 10 to 20%, nearing the Town’s Stage 2 drought 25% conservation goal. Improved imported water supplies, more favorable weather conditions and other positive factors have also provided enough relief to reduce the mandatory restrictions.

While recent rainfall has provided some relief to landscapes, drought conditions continue and local renewable surface water supplies remain limited. Castle Rock Water asks customers to continue to conserve water even as September brings cooler temperatures and less need for outdoor irrigation.

Under Stage 1 drought, water conservation is voluntary, and the every-third-day watering schedule is back in effect. However, Castle Rock Water encourages customers to remain on the published two-day-per-week schedule to continue conserving water.

As usual, customers may only irrigate before 8 a.m. or after 8 p.m. Water Wiser designations are also reinstated, allowing those customers with the designation to irrigate based on landscape needs rather than a prescribed schedule.
Tier 2 water budget allocations have returned to regular levels. Limits on activities such as power washing and car washing are lifted, and hand watering is permitted on any day. Watering exemption permits are again available for new landscape installations.

The Stage 1 drought water use reduction goal is 10%. Lower seasonal irrigation needs, coupled with a strong customer response, are expected to keep water demand levels manageable.

Development activity is common in Castle Rock. Neighborhood meetings give you an opportunity to share your thoughts and ask questions about proposed development projects within the Town of Castle Rock. You are invited to participate in the following meetings:

6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9: An in-person neighborhood meeting for the applicant to share a proposed site development plan for an expansion of the Douglas County Elections Building, 125 Stephanie Place, in central Castle Rock. The proposal includes an 8,750-square-foot addition to the existing building to provide additional space for ballot processing and recording, improve operational efficiency, provide public viewing transparency and enhance facility security. 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14: An in-person neighborhood meeting for the applicant to share proposed amendments to the Auburn Ridge planned development plan and zoning regulations and Auburn Heights site development plan. The vacant property at 1001 Auburn Drive is located southwest of Wolfensberger Road and Auburn Drive. The proposal would remove the current 55-plus age restriction and increase the maximum number of residential units from 100 to 104. The site development plan proposes 104 market-rate apartments in five buildings, along with a clubhouse, pool, playground, surface and garage parking and electric vehicle charging stations.
