A special update to one of our favorite calls!
A few weeks ago, we shared the story of one of our dispatchers helping a family welcome their baby into the world over the phone. Last week, our dispatcher and the fire crew who responded that day had the opportunity to meet the family — and, of course, the little one who made the call so memorable!
For our dispatchers, most calls end when the phone hangs up or responders arrive, and they don't often get the chance to meet the people on the other end of the line. Being able to meet this family and see their healthy baby was a pretty special moment for everyone involved.
Thank you to the family for letting us be part of such an important day and for taking the time to come back and meet the people who helped along the way. These are the moments that remind us why we do what we do. 🖤💛🖤

Every month, our dispatchers attend in-service training to continue building their skills and spend time training as a team.

This month, Castle Rock Police Department and Castle Rock Fire and Rescue hosted DR911 and several other agencies for active threat training. Our dispatchers worked out of our Incident Dispatch Vehicle (IDV) during the training, giving them the opportunity to practice dispatching in the field while working through different active threat scenarios.

Trainings like this give our dispatchers a chance to work alongside our partner agencies, practice communication and coordination during a major incident, and better understand what our responders need from dispatch.

Thank you to CRPD and CRFD for hosting us and giving our team the opportunity to train alongside the responders and agencies we work with every day!

Sometimes our dispatchers get to be part of some pretty special calls.

A couple was on their way to the hospital when they realized they weren’t going to make it in time. They pulled over and called 9-1-1 because mom was in active labor and the baby was coming quickly.

Dispatcher Megan answered the call and walked dad through what to do. With Megan’s instructions over the phone, dad helped mom deliver their baby girl in their car!

The baby was born just before the fire department arrived on scene.

Great job to Megan for staying calm and guiding dad through the delivery, and an even bigger congratulations to the family on their new baby girl!💕

Recently, one of our dispatchers, Andrew, answered a 911 call for a patient who had been found by family members unconscious and not breathing.

Andrew immediately recognized the seriousness of the situation and began giving the family clear, step-by-step instructions on how to perform CPR. They followed his directions and continued CPR until Castle Rock Fire arrived and took over lifesaving efforts.

We are happy to share that the patient was admitted to the hospital and just three days later was able to go home.

This call is a great reminder of just how important bystander CPR can be. When someone goes into cardiac arrest, every second matters. CPR that starts prior to the fire department arriving on scene helps keep blood and oxygen flowing to vital organs, giving that person a better chance of survival.

Our 911 dispatchers are trained to recognize cardiac arrest and provide CPR instructions over the phone, but it takes someone on scene willing to step in and put those instructions into action.

Great job to Andrew, the family members who jumped in to help, and the Castle Rock Fire crews who continued the lifesaving efforts until they arrived at the hospital. This was truly a team effort!

While everyone was out enjoying the Douglas County Fair & Rodeo last week, there was a lot going on behind the scenes to help keep the event safe.

Our dispatchers joined members of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and the Douglas County Safety & Security Team in the Command Center throughout the week. They monitored cameras, kept a watch on the weather, entered calls for Law Enforcement and Fire/EMS, and helped coordinate resources as things came up.

It takes a lot of teamwork behind the scenes to support an event of this size, and we're grateful for everyone who spent long hours making sure things ran smoothly.

Earlier this week, as crews battled the Penley Fire, our dispatchers were working around the clock to help keep the incident running smoothly.

Inside the communications center, dispatchers coordinated resources, managed radio traffic, tracked responding units, answered incoming 911 and non-emergency calls, and ensured firefighters, deputies, and command staff had the information they needed to make critical decisions. They also assisted with evacuation warnings and evacuation orders, helping get timely information to residents as conditions changed.

Members of our Incident Dispatch Team (IDT) responded with the Incident Dispatch Vehicle (IDV), bringing the communications center directly to the scene. Working side-by-side with South Metro Fire Rescue's IDT, created and printed maps of the fire and evacuation zones, tracked resources, and helped ensure incident command had the information they needed.

While firefighters, deputies, and other first responders were on the front lines protecting lives and property, dispatchers were behind the scenes—and on scene—providing the communication and logistical support that helped keep the operation running efficiently.

We're incredibly proud of the professionalism, teamwork, and adaptability our dispatchers demonstrated throughout this incident. Their work often happens behind the scene, but it's an essential part of every emergency response.

Thank you to all of our public safety partners for the collaboration and dedication shown during the Penley Fire. It truly takes a team to serve our community.
