Don't just read the news. Write it! ✍️ Applications for the 2027 Community Journalism Program (CJP) are NOW OPEN! Apply by Friday, November 13 at 11:59pm.

Guided by professional journalists and supported by other cohort members, workshops cover basic print journalism skills and best practices, including:

• Finding credible information and sources
• Conducting interviews
• Outlining and writing news stories
• Editing articles
• Pitching stories to local media
• The ethics and impact of the journalism you create

New zine just dropped! Download 2026 Curious Minds: https://indd.adobe.com/view/a3f446d7-59c6-4808-9e50-4bb91a5d030d This annual zine features stories written by the fourth cohort of our Community Journalism Program (CJP).

CJP is a free journalism 101 program designed for DC residents with minimal to no formal journalism experience. Under the guidance of professional, local journalists, participants receive training and mentorship. In 14 weeks, participants research, write, and pitch a news article on the topic of their choosing to local news outlets. Several program graduates’ stories were published in local outlets this year. Read their full articles and see where else they were published in our latest zine.

🤔 Interested in community journalism but don’t know where to start? Our 2027 Community Journalism Program application opens this Thursday, October 22. Stay tuned for more information about the program and how to apply.

Last night, we opened the Defining Love Community Salon Series with a conversation about what it means to move Black love from something we define into something we practice.

Swipe for two moments from that conversation, then join us next Tuesday as we continue in person and ask:

It’s time. 💜

Black Love Documentary LLC is launching the Defining Love Community Salon Series, four free gatherings this fall bringing together film, The Black Love Book, guest voices, and community conversation around Black love and Black Love Day.

We’ll gather twice virtually and twice in person, with each salon asking a different question about how Black love is defined, practiced, challenged, and sustained.

Come to one. Come to several. Bring someone into the conversation with you.
