We are a caring, collaborative, effective, and knowledgeable organization working to improve the lives of domestic violence survivors and their families in the DC area. Survivors and Advocates for Empowerment, Inc., also known as DC SAFE, provides a continuum of crisis response services that support domestic violence survivors in the critical window immediately after they report a violent incident

to the police, the Courts, or other service providers. Our adovcates conduct lethality assessments and develop safety plans with all incoming clients, working with the client to define their immediate needs and address them in a way that minimizes the clients' risk of re-assault or homicide. Our also advocates provide information about civil and criminal legal options, assistance in applying for legal protection from abuse, and referrals to partner agencies for legal representation, counseling, housing, and other resources. DC SAFE also offers the city’s only emergency shelter program for domestic violence survivors, providing immediate-entry crisis shelter for up to three weeks in private, apartment-style units with on-site supportive advocacy.

We were thrilled to welcome Democracy Forward as a first-time sponsor of DC SAFE's 2026 Annual Spring Luncheon. Last year, we proudly presented Democracy Forward with our Keep DC SAFE Mission Impact Award for their critical litigation work defending social services and safety nets. We're honored to have them with us—an organization whose work uplifts so many, including the survivors we serve.

Yesterday, we delivered our final testimony of the year at the CFSA Budget Oversight Hearing before Councilmember Zachary Parker and the Committee on Youth Affairs. We called for stronger protections and a better engagement process for children recovering from domestic violence in our crisis shelter.

Stay tuned for an upcoming action alert next week—we'll be calling on you to help protect domestic violence services in the FY27 city budget. Your voice matters.

Big change starts small, right here in our community. Today, on May 12, join us in building a safer DC where every survivor of domestic violence can access critical resources the moment they need it. By raising $5,000, we can help ensure immediate crisis response, safe shelter, and supportive advocacy for survivors and their families across Washington, DC.
