Dana James Traversie for Rhode Island: Challenging the Status Quo on Spending, Education, And Energy
Dana James Traversie, the Republican candidate for House District 23 in Warwick, is bringing a background in computer science and cybersecurity to his campaign for the General Assembly. A lifelong Rhode Islander, Traversie is a problem solver who wants to apply critical thinking, persistence, and fresh ideas to the challenges facing the state, which he says is in dire need of a course correction.
Born and raised in Warwick, Traversie attended Warwick Public Schools before continuing his education at Norwich University and the University of Rhode Island.
Today, he works as a Security Architect for a major cybersecurity company, supporting telecommunications and service provider partners around the world.
💵 FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY AND GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABILITY
Traversie believes that Rhode Island needs greater discipline in how it spends taxpayer money. He stated, "No state has ever taxed itself into prosperity." He points to government spending, corporate subsidies, unfunded mandates, and the misuse of public funds as areas requiring closer scrutiny.
If elected, he would work to reduce government spending, eliminate waste and duplication, oppose corporate welfare, and address the growth of state debt. He also supports efforts to identify fraud, abuse, and waste in taxpayer-funded programs.
📈 BUILDING A STRONGER RHODE ISLAND ECONOMY
Traversie believes state government should support small businesses rather than burden them with policies that make it harder to operate and grow.
He sees opportunities to attract manufacturing jobs as production returns to the United States and to expand Rhode Island’s presence in technology-based industries, such as semiconductor manufacturing and cybersecurity, sectors he believes can provide well-paying jobs and strengthen the state’s economic future.
He also emphasizes the importance of preparing students for careers in the modern workforce, whether through higher education, entrepreneurship, small-business ownership, or the skilled trades.
📓 EDUCATION, PARENTAL RIGHTS, AND SCHOOL SAFETY
Traversie believes that a child's educational opportunity should not be determined by his home address. His education platform includes supporting school choice, defending parental rights, and pursuing school safety initiatives. He is confident that schools can become safer without infringing on the civil rights of Rhode Islanders.
🌎 ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION AND ENERGY POLICY
An avid outdoorsman, environmental conservation is an important part of Traversie's platform. He targets the protection of Narragansett Bay and Rhode Island’s natural resources as priorities.
He also opposes Rhode Island’s 2021 Act on Climate in its current form, arguing that the state should explore alternatives to large-scale wind and solar development. Traverse believes that environmental protection and responsible energy policy should be pursued without imposing unnecessary costs on residents or damaging the natural environment.
