The Vienna Volunteer Fire Department extends our condolences to the family, fire department family, and friends of Gerald “Gerry” Strider who passed away on Thursday, October 29.

Gerry embodied what it meant to be a public servant and volunteer through his remarkable 58 years of service with the Bailey’s Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department.

Gerry was an advocate for all members of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue department and especially for the volunteer system. The Volunteer Fire and Rescue system in Fairfax County would not be where it is today without his resolute dedication.

During his service in Fairfax County, Gerry represented the Vienna Volunteer Department well as our Zone Commissioner and was a regular at VVFD meetings and events.

Gerry’s legacy will be carried on by the countless members past, present, and future whom he mentored, supported, and became family to; as well as through the many policies he helped champion that made the volunteer system what it is today.

Rest in peace Gerry, we have it from here.
