Early Friday morning, Engine 402B from the Vienna VFD and Ambulance 401E from the McLean VFD, along with Fairfax County’s Engine 401, Engine 429, Medic 401, Tower 401, and Montgomery County E710 responded to a first-due working house fire in McLean with a reported occupant still inside the residence.

To overcome limited hydrant access in the area, engine crews established a complex relay water supply operation. E402B laid approximately 1,200 feet of supply hose and initiated a temporary nursing operation to E401 to ensure enough water was available for the fire attack.

E402B firefighters knocked down considerable fire in both the house and garage, and successfully rescued a dog from the home. Ambulance 401E transported one resident to a local hospital for evaluation.

The response showed great teamwork between volunteer and career members from a total of 3 jurisdictions, as well as the seamless coordination between VFDs – Vienna’s engine was led by a fire officer from the McLean VFD, and A401E was led by one of Vienna’s EMTs.

Player registration includes 18 holes of golf, including three event holes, breakfast served before the round, lunch on the course and dinner during the awards banquet after play. There is also an optional raffle with great prizes, a Putting Contest that players can choose to participate in for a chance to make a 50-foot putt for $5000, and a 50/50 raffle.

Have you ever wondered which seat on a fire engine is the best one? Our engine drivers say that sitting behind the wheel is the best job in the fire service. The April VVFD Suppression Drill focused on challenging “Driver-Pump Operator” (DPO) scenarios, which was a lot of fun for our drivers and their colleagues at our partner VFDs (, , and ). They practiced low-pressure water supply, flowing deck guns, setting up portable master streams, and drafting scenarios. All in all, our drivers and firefighters put in a great night of hard work.
