The Manufacturers Standardization Society (MSS) of the Valve and Fittings Industry announces that MSS SP-166-2026, Testing of Valves for Cryogenic Hydrogen Service has been published by MSS.
This Standard Practice focuses on testing valves for pressure boundary integrity as well as leakage through the valve closure components. It includes qualification testing requirements, to ensure sound basic design and function of a valve type, as well as production testing to validate that valves put into service meet the requirements of the underlying design type. Also included in this Standard Practice is the production testing of the valve vacuum jacket, to validate its reliability in service.
This first edition of the Standard Practice seeks to address the most important testing demands for cryogenic hydrogen valves. This is a broad field, and it will continue to evolve. Future revisions of this Standard Practice will evolve as well to address the demands of these applications as they arise.
SP-166 continues to be maintained under the consensus of MSS Technical Committee 410, Severe and Special Service Valves.
The Standard Practice, MSS SP-166-2026 is now available from authorized U.S. and global distributors. It has been published in an electronic version (PDF) and in book format.
