We want to thank the employees of Eagle Rentals and Troutman Fire and Rescue for assisting our officers with clearing a large amount of nails that had spilled onto S. Main Street near Barkdale Road this afternoon. We truly appreciate all of our community partners who step up to help out.

On Sunday, May 24, at approximately 10:45 p.m., officers on patrol observed a vehicle weaving through traffic and crossing into oncoming lanes in the 1000 block of Charlotte Highway. Officers initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as Thomas Ellis, 49, of Mooresville.

Due to signs of impairment, officers conducted field sobriety testing. Ellis performed poorly on the tests and was subsequently arrested for Driving While Impaired.

During the arrest process, officers discovered Ellis was in possession of a firearm. Further investigation revealed Ellis is a convicted felon. In addition to the DWI charge, Ellis was also charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Ellis was taken before a magistrate and issued a $10,000 secured bond.

Since the first shots were fired at Lexington and Concord in 1775, more than 1.3 million Americans have given their lives in defense of our nation. The freedoms we enjoy today were secured through the courage and sacrifice of those who answered the call to serve and never came home.

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember the fallen, honor their sacrifice, and reflect on the profound cost of liberty. May we never forget those who gave everything for our country.

As we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, we want everyone to enjoy a safe and meaningful Memorial Day weekend.
If your plans include celebrating with family and friends, please remember: never drink and drive. Impaired driving puts your life, and the lives of others, at risk.

Our officers will be out in full force to keep our roads safe, but we need your help. Make the responsible choice so everyone gets home safely.

May 15th is National Peace Officers Memorial Day — a day set aside to honor and remember the more than 24,000 law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty in the United States since 1786.

Among those heroes is our own Officer William John Pettit, who made the ultimate sacrifice on December 2, 1990, while serving and protecting the Troutman community.

Today, we pause to remember Officer Pettit’s courage, dedication, and selfless service. His sacrifice will never be forgotten. We honor his memory not only through remembrance, but through our continued commitment to serving our community with integrity, compassion, and professionalism every day.
