Officers are directing traffic at major intersections. We ask you to follow their directions and be patient. If you do approach an intersection with a traffic light out and no officer present, treat it as a stop sign. At this time we are unaware of the cause of the widespread power outage.

The Troutman Police Department has received reports of callers claiming someone missed jury duty or has an outstanding warrant. The callers demand that the person withdraw money and pay immediately to avoid arrest.

This is a scam. Law enforcement will not call and demand money to keep you from being arrested.

Scammers can use real officers’ names and make caller ID display a legitimate agency’s phone number.

If you receive one of these calls:

▪️ Hang up. Do not let threats or pressure keep you on the phone.
▪️ Do not withdraw or send money, purchase gift cards, or deposit money into a cryptocurrency ATM.
▪️ Do not provide personal or banking information.
▪️ Verify any claim by calling the agency or court using a number you find independently—not one the caller provides.

If you have already paid, contact your bank or payment provider immediately and report it to your local law enforcement agency.

Please share this warning and discuss it with family members who may be targeted.

On October 22nd at approximately 8:10 a.m., officers conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle that was displaying a revoked registration plate in the 1000 block of Charlotte Highway. During the stop, the driver, Michael Rowton, 46 of Mooresville, was asked to exit his vehicle, and an officer observed him concealing an item in the vest of a dog that was accompanying him. When the dog walked up to the officer, it was discovered that Rowton had attempted to hide a bag containing 28.8 grams of methamphetamine. Rowton was placed under arrest for felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, trafficking in methamphetamine, and maintaining a vehicle for the possession of controlled substances. Rowton provided officers with someone to contact who came and picked up the dog at the scene. Rowton was taken before a magistrate, where he was ordered held without bond.

Thank you to Beulah Baptist Church for making snack bags for our officers and delivering them to the department!

We appreciate the time, care, and kindness that went into each bag. Your support means a great deal to our officers, and we’re grateful to serve such a thoughtful and caring community.

Due to the race being canceled, there will be no road closure on N. Eastway Drive this evening.

WICKED FAST 5K EVENT CANCELLATION NOTICE

Out of an abundance of caution, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this evening’s 5K due to the unpredictable nature of the impending weather and the potential for changing conditions.

The safety of our participants, volunteers and staff is our top priority. While we are disappointed that we won’t be gathering for this event, we believe this is the most responsible decision for our community.

Thank you for your understanding and flexibility. We appreciate everyone who planned to participate, volunteer, and help make this event possible. Participants, the Parks and Recreation team will be in touch next week with more information. Stay safe. 💚

PARENTS: E-BIKES & E-MOTOS — KNOW THE DIFFERENCE

Electric bikes and e-motos are becoming increasingly popular with young riders, but not everything marketed or referred to as an “e-bike” is legally a bicycle.

Under current North Carolina law, an electric-assisted bicycle generally must have operable pedals, a motor of no more than 750 watts, and a motor-powered maximum speed of 20 mph.

Electric dirt-bike-style machines capable of much higher speeds fall under motorcycle laws instead. If so, operating them on public streets can require a driver's license/motorcycle endorsement, registration, insurance, and required safety equipment.

Before purchasing one for your child, check:
• Motor wattage and top speed
• Whether it has functional pedals
• Whether it is legal for street use
• Whether a license, registration, or insurance is required

Some e-motos can reach 40–60+ mph and should not be treated like bicycles.

Know what you're buying, where it can legally be ridden, and make sure your child has the proper safety equipment.
