Teens ages 13-18 are invited to join us at the library this Saturday at 1:00 pm for a FREE Halloween themed Junk Journaling workshop. All materials will be provided. Costumes and Cosplay welcome - snacks and treats will be available for all participants!

Happy Halloween!

Story time this morning was the scariest and wasn't for the faint of heart! I tried my best to get everyone in the spooky spirit, and I think I did a good job (if I do say so myself!). Creepy carrots, zombie pumpkins, and scary cousins were just some of the horrible things we read about. We did a monster dance, and it was fun to talk and think about how different monsters could move. Then we sang a song that most of you may know, but with a Halloween twist! It was to the tune of "The Twelve Days of Christmas" but instead of my true love, it was my neighbor and we were getting candy. It went like this:

At the first house on Halloween my neighbor gave to me.....A large piece of chocolate taffy
At the second house on Halloween my neighbor gave to me.....Two lollipops and a large piece of chocolate taffy, etc.. ..

This was the only fun part and then it was right back to being scary. In the story "Oops! I just ate you" we meet a zombie who is lonely and is trying to make friends. My friends and I didn't believe him, and we spent the whole book trying to keep away. The ending is a bit of a twist and made my friends and I shiver to our core!

Next week starts a new month and that means a new month of stories! 11/4 at 10:30 story time will be about pumpkins. Hope to see you there!

We've got two seats left in our Sashiko class! Join us on Tuesday, November 3, at 5:00 p.m. as sewist Linda Politi teaches up about the art of Sashiko, a type of Japanese embroidery. Participants will then use their Sashiko skills to embroider five different cloth coasters.
No prior Sashiko experience is needed for this class, and all materials will be provided. A registration fee of $10 is required. The class will be capped at 12 participants.

Tonight's the night! Join us once again as Presidential Historian Michael Sisto leads us through the lives and deaths of some of our Presidents! While this talk is not a continuation of last October’s lecture, it is like a sequel with all new Presidents being the focal point, including: Andrew Jackson, George H.W. Bush, and John F. Kennedy. This talk is based on Michael Sisto’s extensive research and cross-country travels including his most recent “Dead Presidents Tour” this past summer of the American South. This presentation will give listeners the facts and sometimes humorous stories behind a variety of Presidential sicknesses, deaths, and their graves.

Presidential Historian, Michael Sisto has lived in the valley for thirty-seven years; he graduated with a degree in History from Mansfield University with a focus in Presidential History. He then obtained his Masters in Museum Studies from Johns Hopkins University. For as long as Mike can remember he has had a love for all things Presidential, he has gone to numerous Presidential sites, homes, museums, birth places and has visited thirty-three of the forty president’s grave sites.

Story time took a creepy turn this morning!

The activity was creepy, the books were creepier and the coloring pages were the creepiest that they have been! The activity was to count the candy and sweet treats and match them to the right number. My friends were able to count all the way to twelve; here is what we had: 1 wrapped candy, 2 lollipops, 3 candy corns, 4 chocolate bars, 5 popcorn balls, 6 packs of gum, 7 caramel apples, 8 marshmallow ghosts, 9 licorice sticks, 10 tootsie rolls, 11 gummy worms, and 12 jellybeans. There were also 0 reports of tummy aches...thank goodness.

The story "Scaredy Snacks" by Terry Border tells a creepy tale of some friends who get caught up in a scary situation and must work together. The ending is very unexpected, so it is the perfect creepy twist! Our other story about Beverley the Bat by Kellie Collier is a great lesson of what is creepy to one person might not be creepy to another. Beverley just has to figure out who the right creepy group is.

Next week, 10/28 at 10:30, Halloween is upon us and the story time theme will continue! If you would like to come dressed in your costume or any costume really, that is ok! It's fun to dress up and pretend!
