On Tuesday August 11th there was an incident where a dog was stabbed on Center St. Thankfully the dog has survived his injuries but we are trying to locate who did this. There was an individual who saw the suspect with the knife in hand and gave a description of a male approx 60’s, grey hair, wearing a grey shirt and khaki shorts. The individual was on foot. We are asking individuals and businesses to check all security cameras and reach out to this department if you see someone matching this description on this date. This incident occurred at approx. 10am or a little before. 570-888-2233

For clarification it was reported that the dog was stabbed while being chained to the front porch.

🚲🛴🛹 NEW BOROUGH ORDINANCE – HELMET REQUIREMENT FOR MINORS 🛹🛴🚲

The Sayre Borough Police Department would like to make the public aware of a new borough ordinance passed on 6/24/2026 aimed at protecting the safety and health of minors in our community.

Under this new ordinance, anyone under the age of 18 is required to wear a helmet while operating bicycles, ebikes, scooters, escooters, skateboards, and similar vehicles within Sayre Borough.

This ordinance was put in place for one reason: safety. Wearing a helmet can greatly reduce the risk of serious head injuries and help keep our children safe while they enjoy being outside.

Enforcement of the ordinance will be as follows:
1st offense: Warning
2nd offense: $25 fine
3rd offense: $50 fine
as well as possible impoundment of the vehicle.

The Sayre Borough Police Department is not looking to punish kids for having fun — our goal is to prevent serious injuries and promote safe riding habits throughout the borough.

We also understand that not every family may have access to helmets. We have some helmets available and our department is currently exploring avenues to obtain more free helmets for children who need them, and we will share more information with the public as it becomes available.

We appreciate the community’s cooperation in helping keep our young riders safe. Please take a moment to speak with your children about the importance of wearing a helmet every time they ride.

🚂 **With the Highly Anticipated Union Pacific “Big Boy” Steam Train Coming to the Valley, Here’s How to SAFELY Enjoy the Experience!** 🚂

The historic Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 is expected to arrive in Sayre, PA on Thursday, June 11th at approximately 8:00 PM and depart on Friday, June 12th at approximately 9:00 AM.

This iconic locomotive will be leading the way as part of Union Pacific’s “America at 250” cross-country celebration, honoring our nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary. From June 9th–12th, this incredible steam engine will travel through areas of Pennsylvania and New York State, including Western New York and the Southern Tier.

As excitement builds, we want everyone to enjoy this historic event safely:

🚨 **Railroad Safety Reminders** 🚨

✅ Stay a MINIMUM of 25 feet away from the railroad tracks at all times. Honestly, the further back you stand, the better view you will have of this massive locomotive and its incredible size.

✅ Always assume railroad tracks are active. It is illegal and dangerous to walk on or along railroad tracks. Trains—especially freight trains—can approach quickly and quietly. Always stay alert and aware of your surroundings.

✅ Railroad yards are strictly off limits. Areas where trains are assembled, loaded, or operated are private property and can be extremely dangerous. Think of it this way—you wouldn’t walk onto an airport tarmac, and the same applies here.

🚗 **Traffic Advisory – Thursday, June 11th Around 5:00 PM** 🚗

Residents and visitors should anticipate a **significant increase in vehicle and pedestrian traffic on N. Lehigh Avenue** due to the arrival of the Big Boy 4014. If you are planning to leave town around that time, please consider using **alternative travel routes** to help avoid delays and congestion.

➡️ **If possible, please utilize Shepard Road or Riverside Drive as alternate routes** instead of N. Lehigh Avenue.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as our community welcomes this historic locomotive to the Valley.

👮 **Law enforcement will be monitoring the area closely to ensure public safety.** Multiple law enforcement agencies will be present throughout the event to help everyone safely enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

TOWANDA BOROUGH POLICE DEPARTMENT – PUBLIC ASSISTANCE REQUEST

On Friday evening, May 29, 2026, Towanda Borough Police attempted to stop the motorcycle shown below. The operator was traveling at high speeds, weaving through traffic, and showing no regard for public safety. The motorcycle continued north on York Avenue before the pursuit was discontinued to avoid further risk to the community.

We are asking for the public’s help in identifying the individual or providing any information about this incident or the motorcycle involved.

If you recognize the operator or have information that may assist this investigation, please contact the Towanda Borough Police Station(570-265-2522).
