Reading Coalition for Prevention & Support

Reading Coalition for Prevention & Support We have many of the pieces in place, including a dedicated and diverse Reading Coalition Board, and highly qualified staff.

We are a coalition of youth & adults living and working in Reading, MA who promote a safe, healthy, vibrant community in which everyone makes healthy decisions and ensures that today's resources shape tomorrow's strengths. There have been many strides to reduce risky behaviors amongst Reading teenagers including a strong commitment from involved parents, dynamic educators, student support professi

onals, school leaders, committed coaches, faith leaders, afterschool professionals, healthcare workers, and other caring adults. “Progress is being made but as a community we have much more to do. Additional recognition by the broader community of youth substance abuse issues will be a key to further success.”

In 2025, 177 people from Reading ended up in the ER because of alcohol or drug misuse 🚑.

After those visits, 142 patients started addiction treatment🤝. These numbers show how many of our neighbors are impacted.

For anyone recovering from a substance emergency, getting well can be a real challenge.

We appreciate the local families, first responders, healthcare workers, and treatment professionals who support our community members every day 🏥.

The Select Board has recognized August 31 as International Overdose Awareness Day. In 2025, 18 residents required EMS responses related to opioids. By supporting one another, we can help more people access the care they need.
Visit our exhibit on the Reading Town Common, Aug 27–Sept 2. We’ll share additional regional events throughout September. Together, we can support recovery and prevent future harm.
