Reading, MA School Committee

At tonight’s meeting, the School Committee voted 5-0 to endorse a “yes” vote on November’s override.

This followed a detailed presentation from Dr. Turner about the likely cuts in the event of a failed override, and comments from students, parents and staff about the impacts of those cuts.

The override portion of the meeting begins at the 21 minute mark in this YouTube video.

In light of the terrible tragedy in our community, we are postponing tonight’s School Committee meeting.

Tonight’s meeting was supposed to be both celebratory, recognizing the incredible accomplishments of our National Merit Scholars, and intensely focused on difficult decisions that lay ahead. I don’t view this as the right time to have that meeting.

Our thoughts are with all who knew and loved Andria Hanafin.
