Businesses are open downtown during construction!

Drivers can drive down Haven Street, and enter either side of High Street, but cannot drive through. Parking is available on Haven Street, High Street at the Depot and at the Brande Court Lot.

How does Reading impact the health of the Ipswich River? What can we do to protect it?

Join the Town staff, Reading Public Library, Reading Conservation Commission and the Ipswich River Watershed Association for a State of the Watershed: Reading Edition community conversation with Erin Bonney Casey, Executive Director of the Ipswich River Watershed Association.

Learn about the state of our endangered river, which has run dry in recent decades, why it remains in drought despite recent rainfall, and how Reading residents have played an important role in protecting and stewarding the river.

The Reading Center for Active Living continues to take shape!

Construction is moving forward, with work now underway on the gymnasium and wood framing going up throughout the building. Over the coming months, residents will see the building transform as framing, exterior walls, roofing, and other work progress. By this winter, we anticipate having the building’s outer shell substantially complete, giving the community a much clearer look at the future ReCAL facility.

At the September 8 Select Board meeting, the Town of Reading Select Board issued a proclamation honoring the victims of September 11, recognizing the firefighters, police officers, emergency workers, first responders, and ordinary citizens who stepped forward to help others. Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember the innocent lives lost, the families forever changed, and the extraordinary courage and sacrifice shown in the face of those unimaginable circumstances.

The passage of time does not diminish the importance of remembering those we lost or the families and loved ones who continue to carry their memory. September 11 reminds us of the strength found in compassion, unity, service, and our commitment to care for one another.

Please join Reading Public Safety, Reading MA Fire Department, Reading Firefighters Local 1640 and Reading Massachusetts Police Department this Friday, September 11 at 8:30AM, at the Reading Town Common for a remembrance ceremony as our community comes together to honor those who were lost, those who served and sacrificed, and the enduring spirit of unity and service.
