It’s a spooky stressful 👻 time of year! Halloween 🎃 political adds (everywhere!) the news/rallies/poles and then Election Day itself 🥴 and the results 🥹 No matter what party you’re rooting for, be sure to check out the Feline Party 🗳️ That’s right! Free and fair elections bring free and fair adoptions for cats! All November long, cat adoption fees will be waived. We are really hoping to get our extra extra and long term cats adopted before term limits apply! 😸 Cats belonging to the Feline Party will be campaigning for YOUR adoption - and hopefully lighten the mood 🇺🇸
*all usual adoption processes apply, please check back often to see our adoptable felines!

It’s worrying to see cats or kittens outside as the seasons change. We receive A LOT of calls about cats who have been fed all summer but now need to be picked up because winter is coming. Unfortunately, shelters are packed with the cats of summer. Please know that cats and kittens begin growing a winter coat in August and are already prepared for the coming cold. Outdoor cats need food, water and shelter to stay dry until we can spay or neuter them or bring them into PAC. The fact is, there are too many animals for the shelter. Is it better to have them stay outside? Some cats would prefer it, as long as they are spayed and neutered. Bringing a cat with a winter coat who prefers the outdoors into the shelter is a risk for stress and sickness. It is critical to know which cats should come to the shelter and ones who can wait and we can help with making that decision! Please see the picture in the post below 👇 and send us a message or email [email protected]
No, it’s not ideal but we can work together to make a difference.

🚨 PUBLIC HEALTH NOTICE: RABIES ALERT IN PROVIDENCE 🚨

⚠️ RIDOH reports an increase in rabies cases. A raccoon found in the Hope Street area near Lippitt Memorial Park in Providence tested positive for rabies this week.

🦝 RABIES IS FATAL ONCE SYMPTOMS DEVELOP. Prompt medical assessment and treatment after exposure are critical.

👤 IF A PERSON MAY HAVE BEEN EXPOSED:
Anyone who had direct contact with the raccoon should immediately contact the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) for an exposure assessment.

📞 Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–4:30 PM: 401-222-2577
📞 After hours: 401-276-8046

🐕 IF YOUR PET MAY HAVE BEEN EXPOSED:
Contact RIDOH, your local Animal Control Officer, and your veterinarian immediately for guidance.

🛡️ PROTECT YOUR PETS AND YOUR FAMILY
• Keep pets away from wild animals.
• Do not approach, touch, or handle raccoons or other unfamiliar wildlife.
• Make sure your dogs, cats, and ferrets are current on their rabies vaccinations, as required by Rhode Island law.
• Report suspicious or unusually behaving wildlife to Animal Control.

Rabies affects the central nervous system and can be fatal to people and animals. Never wait for symptoms to appear before seeking help after a possible exposure.

📢 Please share this alert to help protect Providence residents and their pets.
